Humans and environment interaction has both costs and benefits. Industrialization and urbanization are mostly associated with adverse implications on climate. While economies, such as China, continue to advance industrialization, locals face pollution-related adversities. Today, failure to address the negative impacts of human activity on the environment contributes to the widespread public health problems, droughts, and floods.
Humans release numerous toxic substances to air, soil, and water, which cause chronic illnesses. Environmental pollution affects people from all backgrounds. For instance, in China, approximately 4000 deaths every day are associated with air pollution (“Air pollution in China,” 2015). Additionally, Water pollution leads to infections, such as cholera and typhoid (Galvani, Bauch, Anand, Singer & Levin, 2016). Similarly, soil pollutants, including lead, are risk factors for certain types of cancer, such as leukemia. Lead exposure to young children also affects their central nervous system, as well as brain development. Hence, human interaction with the environment is causing public health burdens, as well as high mortality.
Human activity is the major cause of global warming. Industries, factories, and auto-motives emit a high amount of greenhouse gases. These emissions cause climate change, including rising temperatures, irregular precipitation, and floods (Galvani et al., 2016). Additionally, droughts and floods lower global agricultural produce. While nations continue to build economic capacity through industrialization, consequent climate changes affect food security. Therefore, human instigated changes in the environment have a direct negative impact on economic systems and agriculture.
Overall, while people explore the environment, they experience human systems disruptions and public health problems. Toxic substances in the surroundings cause diseases, including cancer, typhoid, and cholera. On the other hand, human activities change the environment, causing extensive droughts and floods, which affect agricultural sectors. Therefore, human-environment interaction is costly to public health and agriculture.
