Energy Aesthetic in “Joyful” by Ingrid Fetell Lee

Introduction

The “Joyful” by Ingrid Fetell Lee articulates that human beings are taught that their surroundings are incidental when it comes to their welfare and wellbeing. According to Lee, the physical world is a powerful tool when it comes to cultivating a healthier and happier life. For instance, workers who are in colorful and beautiful offices are more confident, alert, and friendly when compared to those in drab offices. Besides, the manuscript also argues that windows can speed a healing process together with the fact that students (children) progress at a fast rate when they are in a more lighted classroom than when they are in a dump classroom. It can be deduced that energy is a critical element when it comes to the promotion of joy, facilitating harmony, stimulating creativity, and improving health amongst other aspects of happiness in a human being. Human beings follow a culture that is characterized by the pursuit of happiness where they forget making themselves joyful in the process.

Part One

According to the author, color is one of the sources of energy in creating joy. Notably, the author argues that color is responsible for making spaces that are more powerful when some basic guidelines are followed. Lee states that even little smuggles of color are a powerful thing in the life of humanity. The power of color comes from its ability to make spaces look more joyful. For instance, the color had the capability of making the city of Tirana (Albania) to have reduced crimes and rundowns. Painting bright orange in the nondescript building encouraged the population of the town to be responsible and take care of their own lives and that of their neighbors. The energy aesthetic made the mayor of the city be awarded the World Mayor award in 2004. Although it is not easy to define joy, people always notice it quickly when they have a view of it. According to the article, happiness is triggered by color easily because it raises positive emotions in a vigorous moment. The atmosphere of an environment varies widely when depending on the color painted in the environment because the interaction of light and shade creates a unique atmosphere in any given space.

The other aspect of energy aesthetic discussed by the author is the energy created due to minimalism. According to the manuscript, Ingrid states that minimalism is an element that is rooted in a state of strange morality. In contrast, on the other side, minimalism is a factor that genuinely evokes joy among people. For instance, in the current world, minimalism is a practical house designing methodology because people believe that what is less is also more. At some times, it becomes repressive, and that is why its aesthetic energy cannot be regarded as a conduit of joy. In this case, the manuscript states that minimalism is not an element of joy because its moral associations are grounded on a strange basis. When it comes to spirituality, it lacks ornamentation. The aesthetics of purity associated with this element is regarded as an attempt to creating the visual manifestation of creating morality. It is argued thatt he minimalism offers simplicity and purity of color and shape both in design and art. Indeed, it is argued that minimalism prides in the sustainable approach to the environment and resisting damaging products, dislike of waste, and have a considerable focus on targeting purity. On the other side, minimalism triggers joy through its pleasure in contrast and abundance. It is a signal of creativity and energy because of its creation of beauty.

The other aspect of energy aesthetic in the manuscript is derived from the freedom in a garden as long as it is not designed strictly. A garden gives an individual a feeling of desire and freedom. For instance, Piet Oudolf (Dutch garden designer) created a fascinating gardener near the German border, something which made people have a strong sense of immeasurable freedom. Notably, the design of a garden plays a critical role in instilling independence among people. It makes people have the desire to take a day off and relax in a sheltered corner, something which inspires a magical realm. Designing a relatively loose garden is mission-critical. Some of the energy aesthetics in creating a garden include the preparation of the flower beds and the paring of the colors in the garden. It is argued that embracing the freedom of a garden and jettisoning tradition on the same is essential. Planting grasses instead of pruned shrubs (stiff) is vital to creating energy aesthetic when creating joy. Herbs are preferred for maximum aesthetic energy because they grow into bushy, large shapes, and they are wilder when compared to shrubs. More additionally, the wind can blow the grass to achieve different ways, and flowers can grow in between them, something which adds aesthetic feeling.

Part Two

The creation of harmonious space is critical in increasing happiness and joy. Indeed, it is notable that adopting a more egalitarian approach when placing things in a personal area increases harmony, which is essential to generating results resulting in life improvement. Besides, the creation of a playful design is critical to creating aesthetic energy because it increases the feeling of joy among people, thus making them more innovative. Aiming at establishments that produce laughter and joy. I think that Joy does not only come from geometry but also the coldness of triangles and squares. Their organic taste creates surprising elements that play a critical role in eliciting joy, not forgetting to mention that it enhances creativity and innovativeness. I feel that quirkiness creates more joy than it is in the convention.

The author argues that designing is a way of reminding people that this aspect is correct. It is because a touch of quirkiness helps people to feel less anxious, relax, and feel more joyful. Breaking the mold, not exploring bound by convention, and bringing joy through quirkiness works marvelously. More importantly, experiences of awe are a critical aspect of creating happiness in people’s life. One of the significant elements which are known to foster awe among human beings is architecture. Awe acts as a response to different things that are vast (infinite) in the human mind. This element works in the general reference of the human frame. Some items, such as enormous mountains, massive canyons, and vast open skies inspire human beings, and they get the energy aesthetic, which bring joy among them. More importantly, celebrations are a critical element in spreading happiness. Designing celebrations with spaces creates an intense feeling of triumph.

Conclusion

Even the ordinary things in life create and bring joy to most lives. As a result, it is critical to let these everyday things create happiness. The colors people choose to paint their walls, tall urban buildings, and the endless opportunities which allow people not only to celebrate but also recognize the joy and beauty in everyday life. Indeed, the benefits of joy are undeniable, and that is why after understanding the place of joy in one’s life makes them embrace it and hence design it in a way that makes the world around them fascinating.
