interaction with the American people
I am Yijia Zhao an international student from Hong Kong, China. My peers call me Scofield an alias for Wentworth Miller, a fictional character and one of the main protagonists of the American television series Prison Break. Scofield remains to be my favorite character in the series. I like to read books as part of my leisure activity and write poems. I realized I would make a good poet when I wrote a consolation poem for my heartbroken friend sometimes back. She came for a piece of advice and I did not know what to do. I wrote a few lines on a piece of paper and the feedback made me to start writing poems. When not reading books or composing poems, I will be in the company of my basketball team. I am not perfect in the game but I always love watching the late Kobe Bryant skillful moves on You-tube hoping to up my game and emulate him. I am the second born in the family of four. My family are in China and being in the United States has taught me a lot. From the culture, food and the language, I can say I have learnt a lot from the interaction with the American people. The stay here has been amazing and I really love it.
I have an interest in impacting change in the environment and the community. I believe in making a difference in the people’s lives, however little the impact can be. That is why I chose to pursue a course in environmental science. In the world today, with the rapid growth of industrialization and technological developments, environment conservation is an area that should be looked at with equal measures. Back in my country, china, there are a lot of things about the environment I would love to change. I would love the environment to be healthy and sustainable for the future. Currently the emissions from industries contribute a significant percentage of the country’s air pollution. I can only impact this change by making certain decisions and actions that affect the environment in a positive way. The knowledge to realize the change is from an environmental science class. Climatic change is also affecting the economy, the environment and the society. Global warming is a threat to the world and it arises due to the energy structure and human activities of a given place. Many countries in the world are suffering from the negative effects of global warming in sectors such as forestry, agriculture and water resources. I am in this class to learn ways to alleviate such negative effects and promote even better energy structure such as green energy, to reduce the effects of this menace (global warming). I believe at the end of the class, the knowledge and skills learnt will be useful to make a difference in the environment.
