Variations of Socialization Based on Gender, Ethnicity, Class, and Religion

Introduction

Socialization is an essential issue in the world at large. Socialization is referred to as a process of life that enables individuals to interact with one another (Cole, 2020). This is highly beneficial to them since they gain skills and self-identity through growing physically, mentally, and general growth in all spheres of life. Socialization is also important since it helps people to improve in terms of cultural heritage. Human beings, therefore, need to socialize to know various issues concerning their culture.

  1. Religious Socialization

Religion is profoundly affected by Socialization. For instance, it helps youth in developing their beliefs on religion and is also referred to as the theory on religious specialization. Parents mostly help the youth in their religious beliefs by encouraging them to attend church activities and committing themselves in studies on spiritual matters (Lisa, 2015). Parents also assist the growth of their children during childhood by living harmoniously and keeping their families together through religious beliefs. Religious specialization works in two ways both parents and children can assist each other. Friends also help the youth in developing their religious beliefs. Friends with firm religious beliefs may influence each other in matters of religion.

  1. Gender Socialization

Socialization assists individuals in learning about roles to be played by each individual in terms of gender. Basically, in gender specialization, both boys and girls learn about their responsibilities concerning their sex (Deborah, 2015). Behavior of boys and girls is distinct in different societies since every society has its ways of doing things. Gender Socialization is, therefore, impacted by families, friends, and other diverse groups in a particular society.

Both boys and girls are given identities of their gender upon birth. Girls have their feminine nature, and boys are identified with their masculinity. Men have the nature of not communicating their problems with other people to seek sympathy or to show that they are vulnerable. On the other hand, females are different (Karen, 2013). They prefer to talk about their problems and show their weaknesses. They prefer communicating about their issues with their friends to feel good about themselves.

  1. Racial Socialization

generally, racial Socialization is referred to the process of growth whereby young people behave and perceive things in accordance to a particular ethnic group where they were brought up. Scientists also refer to the race as the differences that individuals have on their physical looks. On the other hand, ethnicity is the difference of national origin, language people speak, their religions, and other factors that relate to culture. Mostly, young individuals are educated about the history of their ethnic groups (Lisa, 2020). Children are taught religions and beliefs of their races, which they are required to adhere to in their growth. Individuals from different races may be characterized by various social factors that come with socialization.

  1. Class Socialization

Class socialization is whereby people change from one class to another. This is whereby individuals from very well off backgrounds educate their children in costly institutions to maintain the class (Deborah, 2015). There is a distinction between the poor and the rich due to class socialization. Jobs meant to poor people, which involve working for the rich while there are those of the rich who work in better places because of their education status. These differences in class often come up due to class socialization.

Conclusion

From the preceding, it is evident that Individuals of various classes and groups influence each other’s beliefs and values. First, the research has found that parents may affect the behavior of their children but not more than their peers whom they spend the most time with. Even in workplaces, people socialize differently in various workplaces. In every workplace, some norms and cultures need to be adhered to. In schools, too, children learn to comply with the rules of different schools since there are different norms and customs and learning environments. Therefore, gender socialization is crucial globally, as it helps in the growth process of every individual.
