The implication of a free society by Lester B. Pearson
Introduction
Lester B. Pearson’s writings were well known for focusing on different philosophies about a free society. He made it a point to say that when many races, cultures and ethnic groups reside with each other, the need for tolerance and cooperation can only come about through a free society. This he believed was an essential lubricant needed as well as a need for avoiding extreme policies in Canada.
Thesis
In the eyes of Lester B Pearson, Canada as a free society can only be made possible by ensuring there is cooperation in the community, compromises and making adjustments to ensure a balance in the interests of each person in society is achieved. Additionally, there is a need to respect each other, which in turn, will reduce conflicts and ensure there is cooperation despite which walk of life one chooses.
Conclusion
The authors opening, and closing points on the state of a free society clearly states that there must be tolerance. There is no room for discrimination in a free society. Through the adoption of values of cooperation and understanding, one can make Canada a better country. He detests the abuse of power and the lack of harmony and tolerance. These can have lots of negative effects on the personal freedoms and well-being of individuals
