Creative Presentation on a Gender, Sexuality and Health Topic
Component: 2
Title: A creative presentation showcasing your creativity and connecting your work to the evidence and theory from class
Format: 10 minute presentation
Weighting: 40%
Presentation date: (you will be assigned a date).
Given this is an oral presentation, you must be present on the day (like an exam) to get credit for your participation. You must also upload your work to Moodle by the date above or it is a nonsubmission.
Turnitin: The text of your presentation must be submitted on Turnitin, via a Word document, PDF, PowerPoint slide or similar. For example if your presentation is a lecture, poem, story book or other written work, you would simply submit this plus your references on Turnitin. Or if you do something creative like create a piece of art or do a performance you could describe it (including photos if possible) and turn in your explanation of this (how it links to the course with citations and references) in a Word doc and submit it. The link will be available on Moodle in advance of submission. If you fail to submit to Turnitin, in accordance with the guidance provided on the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), a mark of 0 will be awarded for the component.[unique_solution]
Individual work: This is an individual assessment, it is not in groups or pairs. As a formative assessment, however, I will set you up with someone else so that you can practice with each other and give each other feedback.
Expectations: Students will choose their own topic ahead of time and then conduct in-depth research on this topic, using readings and lectures from class for support. You must correctly use and cite at least 2 readings from class at minimum for this assessment.
To give you an idea, in the past we have had highly creative (yet academically sound) presentations such as:
- Spoken word/poetry
- Painting
- Delivering a mini session to children (your colleagues pretend to be the children – we aren’t bringing in real kids!)
- A zine/blog or children’s book
- A ‘close reading’ of another author’s work
- Performing a short play/monologue
- Writing a song
- Creating a website or health promotion resource
- Delivering a lecture using slides or another teaching method
Learning outcomes being assessed (from module spec in module guide) is #3 & #8

Details of the task: Submissions to Turnitin should include information from your presentation, so that the external examiner can get a sense of what you presented on the day – be sure to include your references, any text that you used (eg. If you wrote a poem or design a leaflet) or photos if you created a work of art. The file for Turnitin could be in a Word, PowerPoint (or similar) document.
Because you only have 10 minutes it is essential that you practice, practice, practice ahead to fit the time as well as feel confident in your presentation skills. Please see me if you’d like support with this.
