Ignacio (2017), Department of Physical Education College of Arts and Science, Laguna State Polytechnic University of the Philippines states that people in the academe believed that sports participation hindered the students’ ability to excel in their academic courses because most of their times were allotted into sports commitment such as training and competitions than studying alone.  Also, some critics believed that there was no possibility that the student-athletes achieve excellence in sports as well as in academics at the same time.  Hence, many students have to choose between sports and academics.

In contrary, many people are firm believers that the positive of athletic participation outweigh the negatives.  In fact, according to Florida National University Athletic Department (2019) taking the Miami Dolphins for example, believed that sports and academics go together and have consistently demonstrated that physically active people are not only healthier but also perform better on tests of cerebral or intellectual ability.  In addition, E. Lemerand (2018) mentioned when students play sports, it requires them to memorize, repeat and learn.  All these skills translate into the classroom.  In both places, goals are created and achieved.  Hence, sports help academically, physically and helps reduce pressure as well as stress.
