In the 1920s, American society interacted with new customs and social traditions. It was time to change for the better. However, the 1920s marks American conservative time. Americans elected conservative presidents. Although American society was not afraid to welcome immigrants from other parts of the world, including England, they fear that they would lose their jobs as well as land to foreigners who were arriving in significant numbers (Jarmul, 2006). To mitigate the level of immigration to conserve its resources, America took the step of adopting new immigration laws. This article will write about conservative in America during the 1920s.

Conservative in America traces back in 1920, where America had to adopt new immigration laws to limit the number of immigrants arriving on its shores. Although immigration laws were almost impossible to implement, they did succeed in limiting immigrants from certain countries and regions.

Further, conservative in the 1920s related to banning alcohol. Conservative Americans were at the forefront to ban the consumption and sale of alcoholic drinks. Conservative Americans living during this time, termed liquor as evil (Jarmul, 2006). As a result of the traditional Americans concerns about alcohol, some cities and states banned the sale and consumption of alcohol. In 1919, the American nation passed the Volstead Act, which made the production, transportation, and sale of alcohol illegal.

Additionally, the conservative era marked efforts to ban modern science school books. Conservative rural Americans, especially the Protestant Christian Church, were fearful of how modern science would change the American society (O’Neal, 2009). Science challenged ideas in the bible, with significant conflicts arising from Charles Darwin’s concept of evolution and the Bible concept of creation.

Also, conservative during the 1920s marked the era where Americans were more conservative than ever. Although traditional had its benefits, in most cases, it presents negative impacts on American society. Some of the benefits the American population enjoyed during the 1920s as a result of conservativeness were the adoption of fair laws regulating competition. Also, Americans experienced a tax reduction from 73% of taxable incomes exceeding one million US dollars to 25%. On the other hand, conservativeness raises tariffs on imports, which meant to reduce competition from the foreign market.

In continuation, the American conservative played a crucial role in promoting economic policies and tax reductions. Also, American society was changing in various essential ways during the early twentieth century. The 1920s marks the time where the American nation experienced growth, switch between old and new values and growth.

Also, the 1920s American conservatives believe that the federal government should not interfere with the day-to-day activities of the economy. They think that issues such as recessions, wages, inflation, and prices had their way or restoring themselves. In other words, they believe what is best for one is the best for all. For instance, if a person fails to succeed in business and ends up broke, he/she should not worry because the happenings follow a natural order of the fittest to survive. The federal government is not in a position to go against the laws of nature.

Conclusively, conservatives in American society present both benefits and shortcomings. As much as weaknesses might limit the ability of conservativeness to employ specific laws, Americans reaped huge from its benefits.
