Media And Culture

The media comprises agents that spread information that the people use to create a reality which later turns to be their culture. Technological advancement has led to the invention of mass media tools that are reliable and spread information fast. Among the tools used is the internet, televisions, newspapers, among others. The media in use reflect culture differently. They display the U.S culture differently compared to the other countries culture. Therefore it is crucial to distinguish how the media portrays the U.S  culture and the culture of other countries.

U.S Culture

The media has portrayed the U.S culture as dominant. They explain that most of the films, for example, are export from the state and later translated to other languages of different countries. The media has shown that the culture in the state is widespread, and other countries can only imitate (Schaefer, 2019). An example of this is the

languages used in American films. Audiences from developing tend to adopt the words which at times is vulgar and incorporate them in the movie that they produce. Although they do not necessarily pick up the values in the films since most cultures are passive recipients of foreign culture, they incorporate the alien culture in their movies.

Other Countries Culture

Although the U.S have adopted some cultures from other countries due to media and incorporated them into their programs. They are still adamant to allow the free flow of information among cultures. Among the films they adopted from other countries cultures include American idol which the imitated from Britain’s pop idol. The media has portrayed other countries culture as inferior, especially developing countries culture. Most people in the united states do not know of news from the rest of the continents they only know what happens in their country since the media does not report other countries’ news (Schaefer, 2019).
