Quantum mechanics is one of the major branches of physics. Physics, as a discipline, is a science that deals with study observed natural phenomena about matter and energy.

The definition is a science. Eleven branches of physics have profoundly enriched most of the technology used today. The eleven core branches are Classical physics, Modern physics, Nuclear physics, Atomic physics, Geophysics, Biophysics, Mechanics, Acoustics, Optics, Thermodynamics, and Astrophysics. Mechanical physics is a branch which deals with motion and energy changes denoted as the force on the dynamics of the study. There are two branches of mechanical physics; Classical mechanics and Quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics deals with the behavior of microscopic particles like neutrons, protons, and electrons (Alsaleh, 2017).

Quantum mechanics have five significant areas of study quantum field theory, Schrödinger equation, scattering theory, quantum statistical mechanics, and Path integral formulation. The core concepts that make quantum mechanics a significant discipline in modern technology include black-body radiation, free particle, wave property, wave-particle duality, Hilbert space, quantum harmonic oscillator, and quantization. In general, the primary feature of quantum mechanics and its application is based on the study of matter and description of phenomena at the atomic level. The Quantum perspective offers an excellent model to study electrodynamics, which facilitates the study of matter in detail on chemical and structural properties.

Quantum mechanics has been applied in new fields in different fields and industries, which include medicine, chemistry, geology, and astronomy. In the medical area, the most common and significant ground where principles are applied is on MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). The first scanning machine that applied quantum mechanics was launched in 1986 and the first Nobel prize awarded in 2003. Nobel Prize is awarded towards contributions and innovations that have made a significant and outstanding contribution to the lives of people or conservation of the environment. In chemistry, quantum mechanics facilitate the study of radiations and energy changes that occur as a result of nuclear decay. In astronomy, quantum mechanics is applied in the study of black-bodies and helps in dating.

In medicine, “Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),” is a technology that is used to process images of internal organs of the human body. The technology used is based on spectroscopic imaging technique, which is really on (NMR) nuclear magnetic resonance. Through nuclear magnetic resonance, microscopic data of a cell, tissue, or organ is used to create an image that can communicate the medical state of the part scanned. The data used relates to the physical and chemical state of the tissue.

In chemistry Niels Bohr, Dawn Meekhof, Steve Jefferts, among others, have achieved a lot in defining chemistry used and applied today. Quantum mechanics was used to study the properties of light. Through the electromagnetic spectrum, the wave property of light was identified, and this led to UV, white light, and electromagnetic waves. Quantum has also been used to describe the structure of the atom, elements, and compound. Periodic table was developed based on quantum studies, which were done through quantum mechanics. In astronomy, quantum mechanics is the principle applied in telescopes.

Society has benefited a lot from quantum mechanics. MRI scanners have facilitated the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that could not be treated before. In medicine, scanning images are used to make a diagnosis that defines the course of treatment. Radiotherapy has also been applied to treat and to manage cancer (‘Magnetic Resonance Imaging,’ nd). Quantum mechanics has evolved new technologies that have transformed life. In chemistry, it has changed photography where images can be captured conveniently and stored in device memory (‘Quantum Physics, nd). In navigation, binoculars and telescopes are crucial as they can be used to observe structures at a far distance and telestial bodies with clarity.

There are two significant areas where I have experienced the application of quantum mechanics. The first encounter was in virology, where we observed the virus under an electron microscope. The second scenario is medical scans, which include personal and scans for people close to me. Personally, the scans were done after suffering a dislocation at the shoulder joint and the backbone. The scans facilitated informed medical procedures offered that restored the functionality of the structures.
