Christopher Ordaz
My name is Christopher Ordaz; I am in my second year at Cedar Valley College. Hobbies are the activities we engage in to feel satisfaction, and, in other instances, activities we derive joy from. My hobbies include playing occasional multiplayer video games with my friends, going out on the weekend, and taking hikes. Also, I love taking trips around the country, visiting new interesting sites such as national parks. Besides all the fun activities I engage in, what I would like to do is to take some time right after college ends to travel the world. One of the reasons I want to travel soon after college is because traveling is a hobby that I enjoy. It provides opportunities to create lasting memories and connections or friendships. I also want to travel because traveling will make me more knowledgeable and culturally diverse in preparation for the job market. However, my parents and some of my friends are against the idea of arguing that it will be an expensive endeavor, and I have no means to pay for it. Despite the validity of their arguments, I disagree because I can take up a part-time job to pay for the expenses.
The first reason I want to travel because traveling has always been the go-to activity for most of my occasions. My love for going to new places stems from my curious and outgoing nature. To me, there is nothing that compares to traveling; the experience can both be terrifying and exciting at the same time. The trips I have taken to the different national parks in the country have helped push me out of my comfort zone. I have been forced to become more responsible as I become independent. The second reason why I want to travel is that it will increase my knowledge about the world, therefore making me more culturally diverse and knowledgeable before getting into the job market. Most graduates will opt to get right into work after college, thus denying themselves the opportunity to gain perspectives on how big the world is. Traveling increases my knowledge and the information about the countries I visit and its people, culture, foods, and languages. It will provide chances to learn and familiarize myself with new languages that are spoken by different people, which is still uncommon in most job resumes. Also, traveling will help me be able to adapt to the different environments in the workplace by teaching me how to interact with people of different cultures. Even though making and saving of traveling plans can be hectic sometimes, the stories that come up from the trips makes it all worth it.
My family and some of my friends feel that traveling soon after college will very expensive since I will be fresh out of college, and I need to save as much as possible before I get the first job. They argue that taking time to travel will make gaps that cannot be explained to employers and companies. These gap raise suspicions of irresponsibility and unseriousness. They further say that the trip will be too expensive since I will have no job to support myself. Even though they make sound arguments, I have to disagree. I will take up a part-time job in my third year in preparation. The job will help me become more independent and responsible as I learn valuable skills in budget keeping, expenditure management, and, more importantly, on saving. I know the risks involved, but I can further reduce my expenses by taking advantage of deals given to students on motels, food, and tours, among others.
In conclusion, traveling is a hobby that I am very passionate about. To me, nothing compares to the feeling one feels by going to new places. New places help create new experiences that are enjoyable and memorable as one gains perspectives on different people, cultures, and languages. In addition to providing enjoyment and excitement, traveling makes me more knowledgeable in preparation for the job market. My family and friends oppose the idea arguing that it will be too expensive. Irrespective of the expenses, and their worries, I love traveling, the feeling of independence, freedom and satisfies my curious nature.
