Part A

The first technology I want to talk about is Buck ID. Buck ID is a student ID of OSU student. Buck ID isn’t just an ID card, it’s also a massive system, like our bank card system. Every student will have his Buck ID when he enters school. Buck ID can be used in dormitories, canteens, public transport, etc. Each Buck ID contains a chip that students can recharge in a Buck ID. The money in Buck ID can be used in every store in the school. Some stores around the school can also support Buck ID payment, such as bookstores, fast food restaurants, convenience stores, and so on. The Buck ID also serves as an id. For example, in exams, students can use Buck ID to prove their identity. To make student’s life more convenient, the school provided Buck ID for students. Students don’t need to carry all kinds of cards, such as id cards, bank cards, access cards, and so on when they have Buck ID. Buck ID contains all these features. Buck ID may even have the discount at some off-campus stores. So, I think Buck ID is a very efficient technology.

The second technology is the OSU Library system. This is a system for students and teachers to use together. The system contains so many books that almost any book we can read can be found. Students and teachers can search the system for books and literature they want. Students and teachers can log on to their computer anytime and anywhere to search for books. This brings great convenience to students and teachers. For example, when students write a paper, students only need to input critical words in the system to find the literature they want to search for. The system is also available when teachers are making their class copy. In OSU Library’s system, students cannot only find an electronic version of the book but even apply for a paper version of the book.

The third system I want to introduce is Grubhub. It’s a service system for online ordering. Students and teachers can download software on their phones and book meals on them (What, 2020). Although OSU’s campus has a number of restaurants and cafes, it takes more than 10 minutes to line up to buy a bite to eat because of the number of students and teachers. However, many courses are only 15 minutes apart. So it caused some students to be unable to buy what they wanted to eat or to be late for class. Grubhub is the perfect solution to the problem. Students can place orders in the system on their way to restaurants and cafes. When the students arrived at the restaurant, the meal was ready. This saves a lot of waiting time. Students can use their buck ID for payment on this system. What is more, the system shows the location of each restaurant so that students can pick up their meals on the way to the next class. The system is available in every restaurant and coffee shop in the OSU school, saving students and teachers a lot of time.

The forth system I choose is Carmen. Carmen is “Ohio state’s learning management system” (ODEE, 2020). Almost all students use this system every day. Students can get information on all the courses they take this semester through Carmen. They can check their recent assignments, test scores, course syllabus, and PowerPoints for class. Carmen is also a platform for students to turn in homework, contact other classmates, and get announcements to form professors. This system stored all the assignments you handed in and all the scores you got since the first year of university. Carmen is a safe system because only the people who have school accounts can log in and use it. Students can only log in online, but the equipment they use is not limited. They can use their computer to visit Carmen. OSU provides students with this system to make it easier for them to study. All the assignments, grades, and other records will be more organized and easy to view. Students can just turn in an assignment on Carmen instead of sending emails to professors. Professors can mark homework and register grades directly on Carmen. Overall, Carmen makes things more efficient and convenient.

The fifth technology I want to mention is the application on the phone called “Ohio State.” People can download it for free on their mobile phones. Students can log in and view many schools related information, including their class schedule, Buck ID information, grades, statement of account, advising, garages, and OSU wireless configuration. The people who have school accounts can use the application anywhere, which can make things be convenient. For example, students can check the time and place of their next class at any time as long as they are carrying mobile phones. Also, if students want to park before class, they can just press the “garages” button in order to know which garage has more parking spaces. In this way, students can save more time and view information directly on mobile phones.

Part B

 The OSU systems are crucial and have helped in making the life stay of all people in the university to have effective lives. The Busk ID as one of the systems in the universities is mostly helpful to the students. Students use the Busk ID for two main purposes (What, 2020). One is that students use the ID for transaction purposes within the school, and the second purpose is identification. They do not have to carry their bank cards or school IDs since the Busk ID replaces all these. The only thing they have to do for the effectiveness of the ID is to charge it.

Additionally, Students should consider the fact that Busk ID is only useable within and around the university. Therefore when going far, they should have alternatives for transactions and also should possess identity cards. In reality, the system is useful in ensuring the safety of the students’ cash from theft or getting lost.

For the case of the OSU library system, students and teachers access the reading materials by the use of this system. However, they are required to have their computers or be in school for them to use the system (Chau & Hu, 2002). They are also required to have an OSU account for them to log in. The system is useful in reducing students the burden of carrying hard copies of reading materials, especially when going home or coming to school. It also helps teachers to access the content with ease and the most convenient way.

Grubhub system is for students and teachers to place their orders earlier to avoid congestion in the queuing lines. The users need to have phones and download the software for effectiveness in using the software. Teachers and students should consider the nearby restaurant that when placing online orders to save walking time. The system is useful in saving time that could have been used queuing for meals. Also, the system makes students avail themselves of lectures on time.

Carmen is among the systems, and both students and teachers use it. Students use the Carmen system to access information about their courses: courses taken per semester, performance, and submission of their homework. Teachers use the system to mark and post grades for homework instead of the dull alternative. For the effectiveness of the system to be used, both the teachers and the students need to have an account. Additionally, they should have access to computers for information transactions (What, 2020). The system is useful in enhancing convenience since students can contact their classmates and get professor’s announcements at their respective places.

The Ohio State App is the fifth system. This helps the users who have the account of the university to access the information about the university. The requirement is a phone, account of the university, and network coverage, and the user will have the information. It is useful since the user is not required to visit the information department for inquiries.

Part C

Despite the more advantages attributed to the five systems, there various weaknesses that are associated with each of them. The Busk ID the issuance of school IDs wastage of resources since they are not highly used. Also, students can decide to use Busk ID and give a foreigner the school ID to enter the university. The library system may make the students lazy in classes in putting down the notes during the class session. They know that they can get the content elsewhere. Grubhub system may cause inconvenience, especially when the teacher or student places online ordering and then gets committed and fails to show up for the meal. Carmen system can be associated with a lot of cheating since the assignments are submitted online. Students can be paid to do and send for a friend.

Additionally, the data is insecure since the accounts can be hacked, and a lot of information leaked. The availability of the Universities information on the Ohio State App allows data insecurity. Different people can access confidential information from the App.

Part D

Following the weaknesses in the above section, some improvements ought to be made on each system accordingly. For example, the management should decide to eliminate the processing of school IDs for students and incorporate the information that is not on the Bust. This will save resources (ODEE, 2020). For the case of the library system, teachers can be allowed to upload their lesson plans and the relevant notes for the students to access. Teachers should only be going to discuss the content in class with the students in the class. The best improvement on the Gunhub system is to include exact collection time beyond which the order will be canceled, and this will reduce the rate of inconveniences when the customer delays or never show up. In reducing the irregularities in doing and submitting the assignment, Carmen should have software for detecting the face of the person who is typing and sending the work. Finally, the Ohio State App should be installed with software that will be sending security alerts to the management.

Part E

Additionally, the system will be at a better place if it establishes the figure print confirmation system for the lectures to record their presence. In the morning, as they enter the lecture hall, they put their figure print at the door, and as the lecturers leave, they do the same. Similarly, students should have some way of being monitored (Chau & Hu, 2002). The system will ensure the institution’s 100% class attendance. Another system that the university should implement is CCTVs at all entrances where there is checking. The system will help to reduce the students’ harassment, especially when they have lost or forgotten with the gate pass.
