critical summary thesis to make an argument

The story of “The tower of the elephant” by Howard, is a land that is separated by the poor and the rich. Somewhat similar to the world we currently live in but detailed enough to separate from reality. Howard argues in “the tower of the Elephant, “the representations of heroism, villainy, masculinity, femininity.

Heroism has been represented in the “the tower of the Elephant” through the main character Conan. However, Conan was never at any time intended to be a classic hero. Howard has used Conan stories purposely to ruminate his ideas of civilization versus barbarism. Conan was an outsider who was a barbarian entering in a civilized world. The position of being a stranger offers Conan an exceptional perspective based on the lands that he travels through and to his outsider’s view and finds means of manipulating situations to his advantage. His reasons are highly immature as he runs off stealing the jewel, saying, “I will show them!” since he felt that he was ridiculed. The short stories, “the tower of the Elephant,” has starred the fictional sorcery and sword hero Conan the Cimmerian after completing his hero’s journey.

Additionally, masculinity has been demonstrated through the story by its characters. Conan has portrayed the features of a masculine man through his tactics of entering the tower. “Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” According to the story. In the play, Taurus is seen desiring power like the wicked priest who was known as Yara. Conan, by nature, he is a savage, although he shows not having the desires in seeing for another to be tormented based on a personal gain. Canon’s actions from the start of the play display those at the end.

Besides, femininity is demonstrated when Canon kills a “woman stealer,” and to more on that, he goes ahead to kill an alien stealer. He shows internal justices, which are far much contrary to the external laws. Masculinity also is seen when Conan fully climbed the outer walls of the “Tower of the Elephant.” Again, he was full of expectations to kill a guard, although the uber thief had already killed him. The combination of Conan and uber thief forces shows declares masculinity. He has used much of his strength in order to get to the top of the tower. Conan penetrates to the unsafe tower within the city of thieves with the aim of stealing a gem from a sorcerer evil. Thieves in play were attempting to steal the heart belonging to the Elephant representing villainy in the story.

Despite Conan’s strengths, he still has several weaknesses. He is extremely strong but not necessarily superhero strength bit significant distinction and stronger compared to each one as well as everything that he encounters. In the play, Conan is seen as being determinant in burgling the tower, which is set for the most powerful sorcerer. We can also see from the tower that thieves were all being attacked by a certain lion, but Conan impulsively sensed the danger. Masculinity is well demonstrated again from the character Conan when he hacks downwards, having his only sword and kills the lion. He fights all his way the set trap in the tower where there were lots of treasures as well as mysteries and, by doing so, portrayed delusional confidence, strengths as well as his determination in achieving for greatness.

Moreover, villainy in the “tower of the elephant” can be described as criminal or bad behavior. It is well demonstrated when Conan chooses to steal the priceless directly from the tower, and in the process, he meets up with a giant spider, a rival thief, as well as an alien creature. Villainy is seen from the thieves in the play, like uber, who tries to steal magical and great jewel form the tower. It is a criminal act after the disagreement between Conan and the thief, which led to the killing of the thief and freeing of an innocent maiden.  There is another villainy from the play that happened when Conan took off towards the tower in order to steal the significant treasure from evil and cruel sorcerer known as Yara. Taurus is the named the prince of thieves in “the tower of the elephant” for the wrongdoings committed. Again, the stranger that was met by Conan after he entered the tower was tortured. Lastly, the play “the tower of the Elephant” is an incredible one as Howard has demonstrated deeply how heroism, villainy, masculinity, femininity has been represented. The characters showed abilities and tactics for one to survive in this world. The main character, Conan at the end of “The tower of the Elephant,” is seen fleeing from the tower without no treasure, and after that, the building collapses.
