The workplace problem is: implementing a scheduled maintenance plan for a flight school will increase aircraft efficiency.
To investigate this problem, I would use the phenomenological qualitative technique. The phenomenological qualitative approach will help to focus on the commonality of the lived experience on the inefficiency of aircraft due to lack of implemented maintenance schedule among the students and travelers. The phenomenological qualitative approach employs a combination of techniques such as watching videos, interviews, visiting the events or areas of interest, and surveys, among other methods. In this approach, the researcher depends on the respondent’s perspectives and opinions to primarily identify their motivations. There is no hypothesis as it is in other techniques. The interviews become the basis to create a dataset enough to commence the analysis.
I would employ structured, semi-structured, in-depth interviews, and unstructured and discussions. The study would interview approximately 25 respondents translating to 1% of the total population. The interview would be structured in such a way that various groups of people, including students, managers, pilots, and travelers, are reached. I would interview every one person out of five (5). The interview will help in acquiring the first-hand information from the aircraft beneficiaries on how non-routine maintenance such as bird strike, hangar damage, and flat tires inconveniences a scheduled maintenance plan.
After having the underlying dataset, I would like to shortlist the respondents who have experienced aircraft inefficiency due to the non-routine maintenance schedule plan. I would intend to begin observing those respondents though videos placed within the aircraft school, to pinpoint the frequency of inconvenience due to lack of scheduled maintenance plan. Then I would interview the administration members to understand why the aircraft school lacks a scheduled maintenance plan and why they opt outsourcing, which is associated with the inefficiency of the aircraft as the department has to depend on the availability of the outsourced mechanics.
This will enable me to find out if the lack of scheduled maintenance programs within the flight schools is the reason behind the aircraft inefficiency. For such inefficiencies, the department administrators can be requested to consider implementing scheduled maintenance programs within flight schools to improve aircraft efficiency.
I would also like to visit flight schools to survey how maintenance is performed during times of regular business hours. After interviewing, I would like to meet the managers and convince them that outsourcing cost exceeds the cost of employees, and hiring mechanics from the institution would be cheaper and reliable. Also, hiring mechanics for inspection from the facility would improve aircraft operations and efficiency.
