Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé (2019)

Beyoncé Homecoming is a Netflix concert documentary chronicling the work she put into the historic 2018 Coachella performance. The documentary, now commonly known as Beychella, is one of the audacious performances to ever premiere in the screens featuring a black musician. In this film, which is a two-hour show full performance from the bands and the choreographed dances are so exciting and amazing that I do watch over and over again. Beyoncé or as commonly called `Queen Bey`, demonstrates her prowess and reveals why she is considered as the iconic pop star music in the music industry (Madden). The Netflix documentary offers me a chance to witness the fantastic and epic performances of the `Queen Bey` which I had no opportunity of attending the 2018 Coachella valley music and Arts Festival of 2018. an annual event held at the empire polo club Indio California aimed at providing a platform for all sorts of creators and performers to showcase their work to an eclectic mix of the audience (Nevins). However, the Coachella only offers a chance for a limited audience to witness the magnificence of the work. Therefore the move by Beyoncé and the partnership of Netflix in bringing the experiences to the world to enjoy and learn from quite an array of educative messages from the performances and not just enjoying pop music while also it allows showcasing black culture and significance of excellent performance in music.

The concert is a documentary film about pop music, which has become the source of inspiration and motivation for various pop music artists. And other females in the music industry to start recording their music documentaries with other television such as Rihanna expected to introduce and feature her documentary in the Amazon. The concert is quite a unique one due to the collaboration of the choreographed dances and the drum rolls put into use to bring an electrifying performance (Silva). The concert uses a black orchestra with a lot of drumline performance during the performance Beyoncé is trying to reconnect and inform about the black culture she utilizes the black beauty, lifestyle, and endurance in the dances with most of the dances and choreography coming from black colleges and universities youths. At the same time, she also features various artists such as J Alvin in performing their song (Silva). Other than a few performances of artists, the documentary was also entirely featuring Beyoncé and made exciting and enjoyable by the dancers. The in-play stops to introduce different songs and explain the significance of the acts to the audience. The uniqueness and what makes the documentary worthwhile far beyond the Coachella 2018 performance is the fact that in the documentary, Beyoncé uses the chance to perform and introduce her first live album. It composes almost 40 songs which give an account of her journey in the music composing career over the past years and appreciates its fans for the treads she has taken in her career (Patterson). The use of the excellent synchronized and color-coordinated corps of singers, trumpet players, gives the documentary a feeling of visual and aural communion in the historical black culture showcase. It is hard to resist to watch it, considering the previous performances and experiences I have hard with her Lemonade and her unequivocal contribution to changing the concepts of a black-American population in the country.

However, many may argue that the song was, in a way, trying to exemplify the black culture and enhance sales for Beyoncé though the part for generating sales and revenue claims may be correct. The issue of illustrating the black culture is incorrect since though she performance into black culture, the documentary is very intimate and has an in-depth look, which reveals the emotional road from creative to a cultural movement of the black without conflicting other cultures (Silva). The dances and the instrumentalists portray and show the historical perceptions of the black colleges and universities, which has been an integral part of Beyoncé as she grew in Houston. The thing I like about the documentary is the intricacy and magnificence it shows in portraying the black culture and the struggles of a woman in the industry. Beyoncé shows how hard it is and how much effort it takes to make something very quality since she had just come out of delivering and had to train her body to get back to the way it used to before pregnancy. (Nevins) Also, the in-between shows educate the audience in demonstrating that there is a need to be ambitious but not too over zealous. In everything we do, we need to become more aggressive and appreciative of our history and conditions. The concert is more significant not only to the black culture but to the harmony of the country where there is so much hatred among races by demonstrating the need to appreciate and respect all cultures, and none is more significant than the other. The concert is worth watching for everybody not only for entertainment significance, but it helps one to understand the culture and appreciate it while living among different cultures.
