When it comes to the world of computers, data recovery involves the process of retrieving data that has been either formatted, damaged, corrupted, lost, or is inaccessible from files, removable, and secondary storage devices. Recovery is therefore suitable if the file system is subjected to logical damage or storage devices are physically damaged, thus preventing the operating system from mounting them (Hassan,2019). For this case scenario, a disgruntled employee reformatted files. But even after reformatting the data, the traces for the original data in the physical drive have not been deleted entirely.The contents in the original file are still present only that they are in disconnected fragments. This means that they can be recovered if relevant tools are applied to rectify the situation.

Purpose and goals

The purpose of this plan is to provide a step to step guide on how to conduct a recovery process on a reformatted computer. Its goal is simple; to recover blueprint files using the best third-party tools available in the market..

Software meant for data recovery is employed in restoring or recovering those data files. They are known to carry out maximum attainable data recovery.  Additionally, the recovery software facilitates the recovery of data in external storage media, system hard drive, or any other type of storage media (Lovanshi, 2019).Also, recovery software reduces the time is taken and the cost of the whole process, unlike manual recovery. Currently, there are so many software products in the market that come in different features. For the purpose of this paper, I have selected two recovery software tools that will be used to accomplish the task. The two include;

• MiniTool
• DiskGenius

MiniTool

The following are uses and features of MiniTool recovery software:

• Recovers data from the SD cards, USB, external hard drive, PC, among other storage devices.
• It is used to restore data, music, videos, photos, and files that have been deleted.
• Rescue lost files and data from a situation known as all data loss.
• It is applicable in all PCs operating on windows.
• The tool also enables functions such as finding, previewing and filtering to allow a quick search.
• The software is 100% safe and clean to use, its recovery rate is high, and it enhances quick and fast scan.
• The recovery software follows three straightforward steps. The three include the selection of the device, begin the scan, and retrieve lost files.

Steps for the recovery process

Step 1:First of all, the software must be downloaded and then installed. After successful installation, MiniTool will be launched to commence the data recovery process.

Step 2: This step involves the selection of the “hard drive disk” from the four options given at the main interface’s left side.The formatted hard drive specifications are made on the main interface. After placing the cursor on the drive, its letter will pop up, and therefore, it is elementary to confirm the hard disk to work on.

Step 3: in order to scan the formatted hard disk, two choices must be made. The first one includes double-clicking on the targeted hard drive, while step two involves clicking on the scan button after disk specifications have been done. It is a highly reliable approach that will be applied to recover the blueprint files.Being a complete DIY, DiskGenius is useful and easy to use. Also, the cost of operating the software is low and quick recovery is guaranteed(Hidayat et al., 2018)

DiskGenius is based on several techniques meant for improvement. The methods include raw recovery, recovery from recycle bin data and recovery of deleted files, recovery of lost data, recovery of hard drive partition, recovery of a reformatted file, and formatted file.

• It uses read-only in the complete recovery process, and this does not harm devices and original data.
• It facilitates recovery of corrupted partition, restores lost barrier, and recovers deleted partition.
• It supports recovery of files that have either been formatted or deleted from removable devices or other local discs.

• Through the software, a user can be able to preview different files to ascertain whether they are correct.
• It helps establish a bootable disk referred to as Windows PE, which is suitable to use in the event of system booting failure for purposes of data recovery.

Step 1: it is at this step that the DiskGenius will be downloaded. The successful download will be followed by installation.

Step 2: it is at this point that the target hard drive is chosen. For efficiency, recovery software has the ability to list the hard drives connected to the computer.  After it has listed them, select where the data was lost.

Step 3: the lost data will be recovered for the hard drive through scanning. It will involve clicking on “file recovery” and a window to allow hard drive scanning will automatically appear.

Step 4: This is the last step, and it includes recovering and previewing lost data.

In conclusion, therefore, any organization needs to have a data recovery plan. In the data recovery plan, the first step is to identify the type of data recovery to0ols that will work best for the organization. Hence as a forensicsinvestigator, I would recommend the use of Disk Genius as well as MiniTool. Both recovery tools work best in recovering raw and recovery from the recycle bin. Since both recovery tools are inbuilt and come with excellent utilities that help in data recovery back up as well as restoring lost data, then the organization needs to use them.
