Sports Broadcasting Critique

As a sportswriter and an avid fan of games, basketball to be specific, I have over time developed firm and strong opinions regarding most football leagues and series. However, beyond just giving views about which team would win the National Basketball Association tournament and whether Chris Paul would outsmart LeBron James by the end of the season, I sometimes take a backward step and intuitively examine the entire field of sports journalism and broadcasting. It was not until recently that I discovered the various deficiencies and inadequacies that have been riffing among sports journalists, broadcasters, and reporters. This paper, therefore, presents comprehensive coverage of the bad habits being practiced in sports broadcasting and the reasons I think such characters should not be the case.

I often find it disgusting when most of the sports reporters and journalist spent most of the time on trivial matters as opposed to the real gaming issues. They excessively focus on non-sport aspects even when they should be giving significant highlights to the viewers and fans. A prominent politician attending the session would be frequently referred to and broadcasted at the expense of the game. They have even gone to the extent of concentrating on the family members of the players with little regard being paid to the basket players themselves. Such a shift in attention and an understanding of the needs of the viewers has made sports broadcasting moments meaningless and boring. To that point, I would instead review the sports highlights over YouTube than spent several hours before the television screen watching insignificant events

Irrespective of the sport being broadcasted, the use of biases and exaggerations is a collective undoing of most journalists and broadcasting platforms. Why should a journalist concentrate on their single preferred player while the court has several members to talk about? While it motivates the respective player, it equally mounts pressure on them and could eventually lead underperformance. Like other avenues where equality should be respected, the broadcasting entities should strive to recognize and appreciate every player on the court regardless of their race, origin, and performance. Journalists should equally broadcast the game as it is without exaggerations for the viewers to abstract the accurate picture session.

When watching a basketball game on the television screen, I would love to get the transmission of the entire event in real-time. It is, however, a disturbing moment when a basket is reported to have been scored several minutes after the actual event took place. The delay in a live transmission from the court creates disparities in reporting. At one media station, a journalist would have already reported the event while at another broadcasting center, the event results would still be the same. Inconsistencies in reporting would eventually lead to media discrimination, in which people would opt for a fast transmission media house as opposed to a slow one.

As a viewer, I would always want to get an empirical analysis of the game event being broadcasted. Unfortunately, most sports journalists provide their opinion and views about the game, with little regard being paid to the sports statistics. They seemingly believe that their purported understanding of the game is ultimately accurate and serves as a true reflection of the event being undertaken. There are even moments I have had to cut off gaming events due to the misinformation being communicated by the broadcasters. They should entirely concentrate on the game as it is and avoid giving unnecessary predictions and comments. Like any other live coverage where the journalist presents the information accurately, sports broadcasters should not be driven with their arrogance and self-understanding to provide misleading information.
