language development in special education leaners
Question 1
I believe that activities such as volunteering and engaging parents in decision making would increase family engagement and promote language development in special education leaners. When parents volunteer in school events, they are awarded points for their service. Such points act as a form of reward that motivates parents to get involved in matters of the school. Volunteering offers an opportunity for parents to connect with teachers and interact with other parents as well as other students in the school. As a result, the parents can inform the teacher on the child’s development history and other factors that may affect tier language development (Danisman, 2017). Involving parents in decision making promotes a clear understanding and communication that encourages parents to take active roles as members of the Individual Education Program (IEP). The IEP can evaluate the strengths and challenges for special needs children and use the findings to makes educational decisions to enhance language development in the children.
Question 2
Offering opportunities to develop language, as well as language therapy, are the benefits of family engagement and language development associated with volunteering and parental involvement in decision making. Having understood the child’s background as well as other factors influencing language development in a learner during volunteering, the teacher can offer the learners with special needs opportunities for developing language. The teacher can structure lessons that lead to the leaner’s language success by providing immediate reinforcements for accomplishment and correcting the student’s errors. If the results obtained from an IEP reveal more challenges than strengths, a child can be placed a speech and language therapy. This therapy enables children with special needs to achieve their maximum language potential by setting long-term and short term goals for the child’s language development based on their level of development. With such, schools must encourage family engagement and language development in special needs students.
