Art has impacted society positively, as evidenced through a series of artworks that have transformed society over the years. As a way of augmenting our understanding of how art has transformed the society, this study will assess how the protest arts by the United Farm Workers in the 1960s positively influenced American society both politically and economically. The study affirmed that art could indeed transform the social culture in a positive way.
Over 100 art posters exhibiting the protests by the United Farm Workers have been displayed at the Southern library of research and social studies in California. The art posters, which have the titles “Viva La Huelga” which is a Spanish name for “Long Live the Strike,” showcases how art transformed and influenced the labor movement both in Mexico in the mid 20th century and later the United Farm Workers when they were protesting against the use of dangerous pesticides by the farmworkers.
