Life after sports

What happens when sport life ends is a dilemma for many athletes. Athletics consumes the time of most athletes. Training excessively takes away the youth of many athletes, and the end of their career comes with a lot of change into their lives. Sacrifices are the lifestyle of an athlete. An example is my own experience as an athlete. I have had to make several sacrifices for my sports career. From the beginning of active life, I have had to sacrifice things like finance, I have called time on my studies, went away from my family and many other sacrifices just so that I prosper in my career as an athlete. Athletics becomes an essential part of someone, and the end of the sports can mean a significant loss for an athlete. Most athletes do not want to think about anything like a retirement. It is the scariest thought an athlete can have. Many athletes fall into depression, and the quality of their lives reduce due to retirement from sports. Physical, emotional, and mental health is essential for any human being. In this paper, I explain how, as an athlete, I would maintain a healthy lifestyle after my sports career comes to an end.

Life after sports is not that easy for most athletes. Many athletes fall into depression after the experience of vigorous training ends. This is because of a different lifestyle after the end of sports. There are a lot of changes in the life of the individual from the difference in their social, occupational, and personal lives. An athlete has to get used to having a regular life away from what he or she is used to. I know a time like this will come, and as an athlete who is used to vigorous training, performance pressure, and some bit of popularity, I have to adopt a certain kind of life. A healthy lifestyle is full of happiness and fulfillment. To have a healthy lifestyle, one has to be in a good physical state, proper diet routine, adequate sleeping pattern, good hygiene, absence of addiction, and many others.

Healthy habits bring a healthy lifestyle. To maintain a healthy lifestyle that will lead to a quality life, one has to have good living habits. This involves an active physical lifestyle and an excellent living lifestyle. To keep healthy physical health, continuing with physical exercises is very important. A lazy lifestyle results in a lot of diseases. Illnesses such as heart disease and stroke can be avoided through an active physical fitness lifestyle. Many ex-athletes become depressed after they leave sports because they stop working out, and this leads to a series of illnesses. I will indulge in physical activities such as taking walks, jogging, and riding bikes. Also, Keeping good physical health involves taking a lot of water. Water helps in preventing dehydration, which might result in poor health. A healthy lifestyle consists of having balanced diets. I will have to eat right to keep myself in check. A lot of greens and fruits go a long way.

Emotional and mental health is also essential to look after. Most athletes become depressed and suffer different kinds of emotional and mental illnesses due to the change in lifestyles. It is not easy to adapt to new surroundings and new activities. After the athletic career ends, one has to find new hobbies, form new relationships, and strengthen bonds with their family members. A new life is never easy, and I am well aware that it is not going to be an easy transition, but I will work my way through it. It needs preparation. Thus I will prepare for the change before it comes. Visits to a therapist are very important to get ready for whatever might come after. Also, exercise can be a good way to keep the mind healthy. Exercise combined with good financial planning should help provide a good mental and emotional health. Positive thinking and not thinking about my retirement as an athlete is a problem that will help keep my mental health at a good level.

In conclusion, athletes naturally are intellectually intense people and are frequently seen by general society to be fitter, more beneficial, and more joyful than others. It is this mentality and stereotyping that can make it progressively hard for them to move toward somebody for help. Along these lines, it is exceptionally significant for close family, companions, colleagues, and mentors to comprehend that downturn can’t generally be seen, and the competitor may be sure never to admit to how they feel inspired by a paranoid fear of disgrace and humiliation.
