Murder, Abuse, and Fraud
Criminology refers to the scientific study of crime. This includes; its causes, better understanding of the realities of crime and control, and methods of prevention (Hagan, 2017). It plays a vital role in the criminal justice system. A criminologist learns and understands about the psychological and social factors that cause individuals to commit crimes and research approaches to rehabilitation. Murder, abuse, and fraud are issues involving criminology that will look at and understand why people engage them.
Murder involves the intentional killing of another person, that is unlawful and committed with malice afterthought. Nowadays, society defines murder by statutes instead of common law and looks for crucial distinction such as first- or second-degree murder. Criminologists, therefore, have to study the murder, the suspect, relevant relationship to the criminal, and any potential causal agents in the crime. Criminology aids us by providing explanations of why a person commits murder and the involvement of law enforcement involving the crime (Hagan, 2017). By understanding murder, criminologists help society develop a better understanding of the crime, the perpetrator, and finally, how to improve rehabilitation of the murders upon release.
Abuse refers to the improper treatment and usage of a thing, for example, drugs. Criminology looks to understand why people would abuse illegal substances, adverse consequences of abusing, and their effects, which may lead to crimes. Abuse, especially drug, is related to crime. Criminology helps to understand how. The first effect of drug abuse is on the body and mind creating mental states facilitating in criminal activities. Another reason is when the user cannot access the drugs due to lack of funds, therefore, commit a crime. The impact of abuse on my career provides many outlooks at the ways to curb the issue using the criminal justice system through having a good understanding of why it happens.
Criminology theories provide essential lessons on the causes that can lead to fraud and other related crimes. Fraud is the use of intentional deception for personal or monetary gain. It is a crime that involves several ranges of behaviors. Some factors may cause individuals to commit fraud such as, opportunity (low risk of detection), pressure (loss of status and especially financial need), and rationalization (finding the act acceptable without feeling guilty). The impact of fraud on my career is crucial, as we can look at the different avenues used to commit the crime, whether online or face-to-face, and reasons why many victims pursue the matter in civil courts.
Murder, abuse, and fraud have dramatically impacted my career in criminology in many aspects. A sense of social justice is invoked within. Thorough research is conducted on the influences of these crimes and how particular backgrounds attributed to committing the crime. The end game is to create a fairer system according to the law. It also creates avenues to work in law enforcement agencies to get a much deeper understanding.
