Online versus installed apps

The similarities and differences between online applications and the installed versions can be presented in terms of their advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of online apps

One advantage of online applications is that they are very big and flexible. All the online applications are accessible from anywhere in the world, no matter where we are working from.

Secondly, the fact all online applications exist only online; it is an advantage by itself.

One of the disadvantages of online applications is that one has to have an internet connection. Accessing online applications depends on the current internet connection (Miller, 2009).

Advantages of installed applications

Installed apps are very reliable, secure, and trusted. Installed apps can be used whenever one wishes within the laptop or desktop (Arora et al. 2013).

Secondly, installed apps do not require an internet connection for them to operate. This means they are convenient to use, even when one is online.

Thirdly, you hold the license to the software (Miller, 2009).

Disadvantages

One of the cons of installed apps is we can access these applications when we don’t have a laptop or handy things with outside.

Also, installed software takes up storage space.

Installed apps also need regular backups.

Cloud computing advantages

If the web application is on the cloud, there might be more advantages. These include:

First, if the application is on the cloud, they have more ability for the users to access data.

Secondly, by using cloud allows people to use implement applications in the organization. The implementation process is made more natural with less time and more effectively since there is less hardware configuration (Miller, 2009).

With cloud computing, any data is accessible from anywhere across the globe. The data is visible on the internet, and it helps in making the right business decisions (Arora et al. 2013).

Disadvantages that might be presented by a cloud-based environment

The Cloud computing systems are internet-based only, so that means our access is entirely or wholly dependent on our Internet connection.

The cloud-based environment poses a security threat to businesses since data can be accessed online. There will be no privacy with the cloud-based environment (Dillon, Wu, & Chang, 2010).

Finally, downtime presents one of the worst disadvantages of a cloud-based environment.
