Scientific Method of research

When conducting research projects, scientists utilize different scientific methods to collect measurable empirical data in a trial related to the hypothesis often in the form of a statement with the results aiming to support or contradict a theory. The paper below explains how scientific methods operate and further discusses approaches utilized by philosophers and relates it to scientific methods.

Though several ways nd exists for the scientific method to be accomplished, there is a continuous process that begins with observation or observations. The process begins by asking questions regarding observations made while gathering information. A hypothesis is formed from the information and predictions made from the hypothesis. The hypothesis and predictions are tested in a trial that can easily be reproduced. Data is analyzed, and conclusions made. At this stage, the hypothesis is either accepted, rejected or modified. Reproduction is done until there are no inconsistencies between observation made, and the conclusion reached. Once a hypothesis gets support, a theory is developed.

Philosophers follow different possible research approaches in their pursuit of knowledge. However, three conventional approaches employed by philosophers include the qualitative method, quantitative method, and mixed-method. The qualitative research method used by philosophers includes a transformative and constructivist world view, quantitative approaches employed include positivism and post-positivism world view, and mixed-method approaches match uncomplicatedness. Besides these approaches, philosophers employ the use of a participatory action approach and a logical theoretical approach.

Even though the research approaches used by philosophers may differ, all approaches take the same route to reach to a conclusion. Qualitative, quantitative, mixed, participatory action research and logical theoretical research approaches follow the general process that starts with observation, information gathering, hypothesis formation, predictions, testing hypothesis and predictions made, analyzing data, before concluding.
