Abstract.

Business ethics is a vital entity in society today. The decisions made by corporate organizations in the community can create either adverse or functional change to society. To prevent a business from misusing the society’s trust, they are business ethics and laws put in place. These ethics do not compromise the quality of the services provided by the Business but rather fulfill their commitment and responsibility to society. Businesses are not separate entities but part of the community, in this case, they must adapt and adjust their operations to the values and standards of the society. Hence business ethics draws a line between the personal betterment of corporate entities, whose main aim is to make a profit and the betterment of the nation. Social responsibility is an ethical issue that makes corporate organizations accountable for their actions. It requires the leaders of Business to consider if their actions are promoting public good that contributes to stability, harmony, and strength in society. The activities of the Business must be voluntary efforts on the part of the Business and contribute to the wellbeing of the community. The ethical idea behand social responsibility is that businesses used the society’s resources such as labor, land, sometimes raw materials, and so they must give something back to the community. This research paper examines the social responsibility, ethics, and laws in the aviation industry and how these business issues are influencing the aviation industry. It focuses on the activities that the aviation industry is involved in to promote social responsibility, both within their organizations and in society—the further looks at the importance of the organization cultivating and promoting social responsibility culture.

Introduction.

There are various ways in which private firms have created ways to regulate their activities, so that, as they focus on meeting their commercial goals, they also consider their ecological and societal responsibilities. Corporate Social Responsibility is a self-regulated business model the enables organizations and corporate firms to be socially accountable to themselves, stakeholders, and the public. With this model, corporate organizations integrate social, environmental, and economic concerns. Social responsibility involves being ethical and also following the statutory, regulatory, and judicial guidelines that benefit not only the corporate organizations but also the society at large. Businesses need to be social responsibility because it does not only benefit the community, but it also helps them.

It is in the self-interest of businesses to be accountable to society as it open ways for Business to understand opportunities and the problems of the community. When a company solely focuses on its commercial benefits, it may not see the other prospects in society. And it may further fail to see the issues and problems that the community faces. Social responsibility also helps better the business environment of an organization. In the business world today, social responsibility keeps businesses honest and also stabilizes their markets. This happens through customer loyalty to and organization that is socially responsible. A better business environment for Business also involves avoiding government regulations that could through social responsibility. Governments are the highest authorities of any nation. When the government feels that the actions or operations of an organization are not socially responsible or are generating problems like polluting the environment, producing an unsafe product, and discriminating specific individuals, it limits the organization’s freedom.

Social responsibility also improves the public image of an organization. When a business takes up the initiative to solve various problems facing society, it puts it in goodwill with people. The goodwill that a company develops helps it meet its long-term goals. For an organization to gain maximum profit in the long run, its highest purpose has to be serving the community. People are social beings, and if they notice that a particular entity is not working to serve its best interests socially, they will not support the Business.

Social responsibility also gives a corporate organization social power. A leader is a helper. Helping society in solving problems and improving their livelihood through better education and health is a form of social responsibility. Providing social help enables Businesses to attain social power. Businesses are one of the essential pillars of which society survives. Corporate entities are responsible for taking care of the needs of the community. Laws and regulations set by the government and other regulatory bodies cannot protect people with the problems in society and therefore is up to the businesses to contribute to the wellbeing, harmony, and peace of the people. As leaders in society, companies need to convert problems faced by the community into opportunities for the companies and the people. Turning risky situations into profits is a way of solving societal problems. Society should be able to hold businesses responsible for social issues. Companies are responsible for social matters environmental pollution, workplace, and employment discrimination, and corruption, and it is a duty of the Business to solve the social problems that they create.

Social responsibility, ethics, and laws in the aviation industry.

The aviation industry continues to play an essential role in the country’s economy. It has been multiplying throughout the country; these activities are bound to affect society. From employment, the environment, and other social scenes in the community. With this dramatic growth, social responsibility and ethics have become a vital factor in shaping the success of the aviation industry. Business ethics in the aviation industry involves loyalty, honesty, justice, equality, fairness, and professionalism. The industry is not only bound to these ethical standards but also the governing laws and regulations set by the government and other regulatory bodies in the aviation industry. Apart from the professional perspective in ethics, due to the increase in air traffic, the aviation industry is not immune to the impacts it has on the global climate due to the carbon emissions in the skies.  Ethics in the aviation industry also relates to the moral principles, which are the beliefs and customs in which the industry operates. Ethical behavior cannot be forced on any organization, and it must be upon each sector to develop a culture that promotes ethical behavior and social responsibility culture.

When dealing with ethics and social responsibility in the aviation industry, it covers issues like the environment and workplace discrimination. Which a social responsibility culture, the aviation industry must have defined shared beliefs and values that promote sustainability by promoting gender and diversified employees to senior positions in the industry. Some airline also insists on using the minority groups in their procurement positions. These allow organizations to provide employment opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds.

Apart from providing an equal opportunity workplace environment, it is also the responsibility of the aviation industry to ensure safe travels to its customers. For the industry to accomplish this, some airline staff provide customers with personalized safety instructions despite also providing them with video demonstrations.

The aviation industry also is involved in socially responsible activities such as community development activities in the environment, education, and health sectors. Some departments in the aviation industry believe that saving energy saves the planet. And participating in activities that keep heat promote environmental sustainability. The main environmental concerns related to the aviation industry are climate change and the reduction of the stratospheric ozone. Since there is a technical issue in the aviation industry, it takes technological app5roaches to reduce these emissions to maintain the environmental sustainability. And these approaches include improving engine technology, and also other alternative energy solutions.

Airplane companies such as Boeing have an ongoing legacy of assimilating environmental performance improvements through technological advancements to reduce both carbon emission pollution and noise pollution. This legacy continues today in that in every plane, the design, and they strive to search for alternative energy solutions in biofuels, solar cells, and fuel cells. These initiatives from Boeing shows that the aviation industry is striving to be a part of the problem solvers in the climate change problem in the global spectrum as they are also part of the sectors that contribute to the emissions. Being part of the solution to the challenges facing the environment is a show of social responsibility and morals standards that the aviation industry is trying to attain.

Other social responsibility efforts of the aviation industry include philanthropic responsibilities. As a corporate organization, the aviation industry is in a position to improve the quality of life through supporting education and better health. Improving learning is done through scholarships to deserving individuals and also offering training in the society and even their staff. A well trained, skilled, and intelligent workforce mentors citizens who participate responsibly in the community to search for ideas, information that helps solve social, economic, and technological problems.

The aviation industry should also have ethical responsibilities in society. Establishing an ethical culture in the working environment and strive to avoid harm both to consumers and the workforce of the organization should be a significant priority in the business’s success goals. It is socially ethical for the industry to treat employees equally and also have a fair recruitment process without any prejudices. The airlines should also encourage managerial initiatives that are beneficial to society. For example, the American airline allows the in-flight caterers to share its profits from aluminum recycling with WINGS Foundation- an organization started by American flight attendants to assist their needy peers.

The industry also nave legal responsibilities that involve obeying the laws set by the government and other aviation regulatory bodies and also work within the stipulated rules. The requirements in the aviation industry include the regulations provided by the Federal Aviation body that requires specific training and records for pilots and flight attendants. It also has to comply with other health and safety laws and regulations concerning the use of fire extinguishers. An organization is viewed as ethical when in first complies with these laws and regulations.

Many entrepreneurs have believed that making a profit should not be the sole purpose of the Business, for it is responsible for its decisions and actions. And therefore, social responsibility is the duty if the Business toward society. Ethics and laws only align the organization and industries in the path of social responsibility.
