The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada is a movie that attracted massive reactions from the public at the time of its release. All through the year 2006, the movie trended as a significant hit even to the extent of ranking as the 17th best movie that year (Berardinelli, 2020). Most assuredly lot from the fashion world as well as cautionary drama. Certainly, the film is one that many young men and women love to watch repeatedly based on its perfect incorporation of comedy and deep-seated lessons.

The Devil Wears Prada is a two-in-one film, a caustic energetic satire that showcases both the fashion of the world and cautionary drama (Berardinelli, 2020). It is, however, striking that the running time of style in the movie appears to overshadow the appearance of caution in the film. It is, additionally, notable that even in scenes where the performances seem to be cool and still, there is still a profound presentation of epic action by the cast, including the likes of Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

The movie tells about Andy Sachs, who is a fresh graduate journalist. In the film, Andy Sachs is applying for the job of assistant editor of the Runway Magazine. The magazine is the most known and influential fashion magazine, and its editor has the most power. She is perceived as a reverend and goddess by coworkers and competitors if anyone makes it work with her, many doors open for them.

Central theme

Self-awareness and pride form a significant part of the movie. The main character, who is Andy Sachs, is seeking the job of the editor to work under Miranda not because she is interested in fashion, but because she understands that working under the chief editor of the Runway Magazine is likely to open for her countless doors. The doors include being promoted to a position of her choice. The truth is that Andy longs to write for the New Yorker. Tus, her accepting the job, is basically because she wants to utilize Miranda’s connections to get to her dream position. However, after working at that position for some time, she realizes that the job is an all-consuming position that demands her entire self and her time, something she never really wanted.

Main Lessons

The main lesson in the movie revolves around balancing between work and one’s life. In Andy’s case, the narrow minds and excessively demanding boss is the center of Andy’s change. It is well understood that giving out one’s entire self to your job is a good thing. However, it becomes a problem when the job becomes one’s entire world. Job, necessarily, should only be a part of one’s life and not the whole of their life.

Surprises

Organizations need to have workers that are psychologically attached to their job (van Rossenberg et al., 2018). This is a guarantee for organizational success. It is unexpected that in a movie where the most prominent theme is ruthlessness and lack of integrity, one would manage to learn a lesson about commitment to work. Andy is still the perfect representation of this. Even though the job is too demanding and that it is poor-paying, she is always committed to doing it with her entire commitment and dedication. However, her commitment is purely because she desires to meet work ethics. Indeed, she is not interested in fashion, and in fact, she knows so little about it. Here, it is open that even in things that we not interested in, if it is our duty, serving with dedication remains central.
