Growth of Amazon E-commerce and Centers

Amazon Canada is an online retail business that sells and distributes a variety of products ranging from electronics to fashion accessories. In Canada alone, there are eight retail and distribution centers purposely for storage and distribution of products and services. The adoption of e-commerce by Amazon Canada eases not only the online purchase of goods and services by clients but also promotes online education. The growth of Amazon e-commerce and centers in Canada is beneficial to both its customers and the community at large. Amazon works with communities to address social issues such as poverty, youth unemployment, and limited access to education and response to natural disasters, which are frequent in Canada.

Amazon’s e-commerce strategy and centers boons the Canadian communities as it provides job opportunities to the members of the public. Amazon storage and distribution facilities employ close to a thousand workers hence solving unemployment issues, especially for the youth. Amazon jobs range from technological, customer services, operational, supply chain, and transportation, among others. Amazon also supports Canadian students by offering internships and scholarships, which help them actualize their skills in the job market. Amazon recommends the STEM educational program (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), which further promotes innovations in the Amazon e-commerce industry.

Amazon also supports the community by increasing the ease of access to essential needs such as food, clothing, and homes to remote and disadvantaged towns in Canada. The “Right Now Needs” is an Amazon initiative that offers material support to poor households, especially children and young adults. Still, in this focus, Amazon works with community members to help victims of natural disasters such as bush fires, avalanches, storms, and hurricanes, which are common in Toronto and Ontario states. Amazon Canada offers relief aids such as material support, especially basic needs like food, shelter, and clothing.

Lastly, Amazon Canada benefits the community by easing access to commercial products and services. Amazon retail and distribution in centers in Canada promotes customer convenience as it reduces otherwise extra costs of shipping and delivery. Statistics show that more Canadian citizens prefer purchasing goods and services from Amazon to physical retail companies as it addresses the time and spatial challenge. The community or customers order online products and services despite their location, as Amazon provides shipping and delivery services to their clients.

Furthermore, Amazon brings the community more benefits and exposure since the e-commerce company is a multinational enterprise that is widely recognized. Members of the city with local businesses partner with Amazon to introduce their products to the market. E-commerce technology, therefore, helps local entrepreneurs market their products owing to the high online presence Amazon possesses.

As much as Amazon Canada benefits the communities, it somewhat harms local businesses that lack an internet-commerce presence by promoting competition. Brick and mortar businesses are the ultimate victims of Amazon’s growing e-commerce presence in Canada. These brick and mortar enterprises depend on industrial spaces to operate their businesses by either leasing or developing actual structures. While brick and mortar businesses possess a physical presence in the retail industry, Amazon has a significant online presence, further contributing to the competition due to convenience. However, Amazon Canada requires facilities for product storage and distribution hence competing with other retailers for industrial space.

In conclusion, the growth of Amazon e-commerce and centers is beneficial to Canadian communities as it addresses the increased youth unemployment. The establishment of storage and distribution infrastructures in Toronto and Ontario creates more jobs and internship opportunities for graduates. Moreover, the growth of Amazon e-commerce eases the delivery of goods and services to customers as well as promote community initiatives, for example, the Right Now Needs action. One particular implication of Amazon e-commerce and centers to the community is that it affects local brick and mortar businesses that rely on the physical presence of the customers and structures hence creating competition for industrial spaces.
