Consumer Protection
The government should take full responsibility for protecting consumers’ products that are likely to harm them by limiting the sales of these products. It should take an effort to ban these products or looking for alternatives to control the intake, or even making these products better through modifications of the products to become less harmful. Even if the government wanted to protect the consumers, half of the responsibility is on the consumers’ side, too; I don’t think you can protect someone if they don’t want protection. Therefore, after the consumers are warned about the adverse effects of the products, it is their role to avoid these products too.
Fast foods are also quite harmful to people’s health as they cause obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases. However, I don’t think the government should ban them, because there are so many people who would be affected; many people depend on the fast-food business for a livelihood. The best the government can do is limit too much cholesterol in fast food by implementing food control policies in food manufacturing. There should also be awareness campaigns where people are encouraged to reduce fast-food consumption and means to reduce cholesterol in our bodies.
Hi Jamilah Scott,
I like your post, Jamilah. Cigarettes are the worst! Personally, I do not appreciate it when people smoke around me because smoke irritates me, and I get headaches. I also believe that cigarettes should be banned, but I wonder to what extent would a ban be effective. We all know that marijuana is illegal in America, but does this stop people from using it? Banning could or could not be effective. The government should, therefore, try and monitor the amount of nicotine in the cigarette. With so much technology in our country, surely, there has to be a way to manufacture cigarettes that are less harmful to the consumers because banning is not a guaranteed remedy..
