Question 1
A sorcerer is someone focused on utilizing magic or paronym powers while a scientist studies and works in nature and an artist is concerned with beauty. Aylmer has a laboratory, and he had made discoveries about volcanos, fountains, mines, and other natural wonders. He professes paramount confidence in his abilities, comparing himself to a Pygmalion. As Georgia wakes up after fainting, Aylmer soothes her with some of his magical creation. “airy figures, absolutely bodiless ideas and forms of unfathomed beauty. He shows her scenes that represent real-life demonstrating her powers as a sorcerer. During the experiment, he tells his wife about alchemy. He trusts that he can turn base metal into gold and create a portion that would give eternal life if need be despite knowing that doing so is wrong. Aylmer genuinely loves his wife Georgiana, but with his science and beauty, he can’t control himself with Georgia’s birthmark. He is so obsessed with the birthmark because he believes it’s an imperfection that needs to be removed. While Aylmer may be desiring to the perfection of his wife, he subconsciously wants his own gain to be perfect. Another compelling factor that drives Aylmer’s obsession of removal of the birthmark is the predicaments in science. Georgiana discovers that as much as he had accomplished, she couldn’t fail to observe that his most splendid success were almost failures compared to what he wanted to achieve. The continued failure in Aylmer’s work propels him to succeed in the removal of Georgiana’s birthmark to succeed in his science. While desiring his perfection, he is forced to transfer his desire for perfection to the desire of the perfection of his wife. That’s why he is ready to remove the birthmark at all cost.

The main motifs of the Cask of Amontillado written by Edgar Allan Poe are revenge. The narrator, Montresor mainly wanted to seek revenge on Fortunato in an attempt to support his time-honoured family motto, which is “No one assails me with impunity.” Which meant that no one could attack him and get away with it. The story commences at evening during the carnival season in a European city. The place suddenly changes from the lighthearted activities involved with the festival to a sombre mood that helps establish the sinister atmosphere of the story. Despite being many characters mentioned in the story, the main focus is on Montresor, the narrator of this tale of horror, who vows revenge on Fortunato for an insult. The story reaches a climax when Montresor fore-shadow about his motive of killing Fortunato. Pride is a feeling of satisfaction and pleasure that results fromone’s satisfaction and achievements. Pride and revenge play a major role in the tale. Montresor feels humiliated and desires to clean his family name. Due to this, he sets up his mind to kill Fortunato. Its pride that led them to their downfall. Montresor knew that Fortunato’s weakness was wine. He, therefore, used Fortunato’s weakness as a weapon against him. He prided himself on his connoisseurship in wine. He didn’t let anyone look like an expert on wine
