Self-cognitive
Self-cognitive is the knowledge about ourselves, which includes our own beliefs about physical traits, personal characteristics, values, goals, abilities, roles, and the knowledge that we possess as individuals. It is the experience of own unique perspective. Without other people, there can be no me. It is essential to relate to self and others in the development process. The more I can experience myself; then, the more I can sustain a relationship with others. The image of self-starts at the early stages of life and develops through a process of assimilation
The real self refers to who we are. It all about how we think, feel, act, and look. Other people can see our authentic self though we have no way to know how other people view us. The authentic self can be taken as our self-image. The real self is never manipulated by the stuff that is positive or negative that results from the list of others. The authentic self is always glad when a person is appreciated, and this, in turn, increases self-esteem. The writer says that his aunt rewarded him with small gifts. He also preferred her definition of the word good boy. The real self always is after positive and not the negative.
A disowned self is the art that a person tries to reject. For instance, the writer says that he was struggling to contain the resentment that results from living a life that is dedicated to please other people. This resentment is done with the hope of finding peace in the inside.
In summary, I can say that by knowing the three” selves,” I was able to understand myself better and learned that the people around me, such as the family members and community at large, had shaped my self in the essence of relating with them.
