Personal Nursing Philosophy, Part 1
As a practicing nurse, I plan on applying my professional experience and education to improve my patient outcomes. I plan to implement my nursing philosophy and commitment to caring as the basis of my nursing career. I plan to not only treat illnesses but also to focus on delivering quality and individualized nursing care to all patients. My nursing philosophy incorporates my knowledge of medicine integrated with compassionate care considering each patient’s dignity. Most importantly, I believe that wellness and health are perceived both personal and cultural, hence the need for considering diversity in nursing practice. I also think that, as a nurse, I plan to apply the best nursing theories and integrate them with the evidence-based practice for quality and improved care. I also believe that collaborative efforts and inter-professional relationships among healthcare professionals are essential in enhancing quality patient care. My nursing philosophy also considers the need for lifelong learning and career development. This career goal has motivated me to join the American Nurse Association (ANA), in a bid to gain more resources for research as well as to network with other nurses and healthcare professionals.

- Person Component
The person component of the nursing metaparadigm emphasizes the importance of patients as the center of healthcare and the need to consider their friends and families in healthcare. Healthcare professionals should put extra effort into increasing the confidence of their patients in being part of the healing process. I always engage in patient education as I educate my patients on the practical use of medication and dosage as well as the side effects of the drugs. My nursing philosophy puts the patient first in healthcare and ensures their well-being is the main priority in healthcare.
- Environment Component
The environment component is vital in nursing since it incorporates all factors, including external, internal, and social issues affecting the patient. This concept considers the impact that the environment has on the health status of patients. Other components that make up the environment concept include societal beliefs, customs, expectations, mores, and values. My nursing philosophy also considers societal beliefs, mores, and values by applying ethical values and principles in healthcare. I have, as well, interacted well with diverse populations who share different societal beliefs and values and respect each one of them by treating them with human dignity.
- Heath Component
This component is among the crucial elements of the nursing metaparadigm, and it focuses on the extent of wellness and health care access given to patients. Their health and wellness cover the genetic makeup and lifespan of patients, and this includes aspects like physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional well-being. My nursing philosophy involves giving emotional and physical support to the patients. Concerning the component, I also advise my patients on the correct eating habits, regular exercises, as well as create awareness of mental health.
- Nursing Component
The nursing component comprises of various skills, including technical expertise, medical knowledge, collaborations, communication, and nursing care. My nursing philosophy involves the delivery of quality and improved patient outcomes by maintaining a safe and mutually caring environment. This nursing component considers the quality and enhanced patient care, and as a nurse, my philosophy involves commitment and use of critical thinking techniques in the provision of quality care to all patients. I also plan to collaborate more with other nurses and healthcare professionals and use effective communication and listening skills in the healthcare setting.
In addition to the four nursing meta paradigms, the self-management concept is also vital in nursing practice, and it should be considered by all nurses to improve on patient outcomes. Self-management involves the actions undertaken by individuals and their families in ensuring they are fit and have good mental and physical health. The concept of self-management can be useful in managing chronic diseases, and nurses should be at the forefront of creating awareness on how families and individuals can engage the idea of self-management.
