Globalization and Business
Question One
The flow of trade between countries is facilitated by factors such as culture and communication channels- languages used. Speaking the same language makes trading processes simple, and transactions become more transparent. However, countries may choose to restrict the use of foreign languages due to various reasons. In our case, Woody impose restrictions on the use of Sweety language in its country, basing its arguments on cultural and moral issues related to the language.
One of the reasons that Woody government restricts the use of Sweety language in its country is to protect its rich culture from erosion. It believes that the language used in Sweety is strange and that it can easily mislead its people if allowed to penetrate the country. The reason for the restriction of movies and music from the state is to limit the content from the said country from interfering with the norms in the country (Feld, 2008). Woody government also believes that the influence of the foreign language from Sweety country may impact its trade as their native content in terms of movies, music, and literature may experience declined sales. However, this reasoning can be challenged in that language barrier leads to poor trading among countries that speak different languages. It would be wise for Woody government to evaluate the importance of culture and communication in the process of facilitating trade. When people understand each other, various trade transactions tend to flow smoothly hence promoting development in both countries involved in trade (Feld, 2008). From an individual perspective, it seems that the Woody government has selfish interests. However, in business globalization, countries participate in trading activities for mutual benefits. Woody also is concerned with the Sweety language as it believes that the language is strange and could bring strange things to the country. Every language is foreign in a different country. It only takes time and patience for people to learn the new language. Woody country can be able to benefit from a mutual understanding among the two countries. The aspect of a foreign language also raises an argument on the importance of business globalization. One of its relevance is that the country is in a position to carry out trading activities with any country globally, provided there is an agreement to do so (Lee, 2006). It would be wise for Woody government to evaluate the importance of culture and communication in the process of facilitating trade.
Question Two
Property seizure is among the political risks that affect businesses established in a totalitarian government. A totalitarian nation is a country in which its policies provide that every aspect of a peoples’ lives must be controlled to maintain orderliness. Property seizure in such a nation is a scenario whereby the business owner has limited ownership of his or her property, its use, or disposal of it. In other words, it is a law that bans any form of transaction on the property in question. One of the main reasons for seizure of property is in the case where the business fails to abide by tax laws of the country or in the case of high debts that the company may not show the ability to settle them sooner (Suprun, Yatsyk and Shkelebei, 2018). For instance, if Sam, a business person operating in a totalitarian nation, is suspected by the state to be using his speedboat in illegal drug trafficking, the state can confiscate his speedboat. The reason for property seizure, in this case, is to stop the illicit dealings in as much as they can arrest Sam. The police, in this case, believe that even when they arrest Sam and leave the speedboat in the hands of his workmates, the illegal business will continue.
Property seizure is common in totalitarian nations as such forms of government try as much as possible to bring order to the state. One of the reason is tax compliance cases whereby the governments wishes that every business person should pay for the taxes to enhance the facilitation of services by the government. By adopting property confiscation as a tool to monitor this, it encourages the citizens and non-citizens to comply with the laws of the country. Debt management is also another aspect that calls for totalitarian nations to use this kind of forceful procedure to make the business operators liable for their debts. However, the owner of the property has assured the safety of the property, and the seizure is removed when the person has complied with the laws. The transactions using the property are banned until the person is ready to perform his or her business in a legal manner (Dickinson, 2013). Also, a property seizure applies in totalitarian nations in the cases wherein where a business is operating illegally. To stop such practices, the property is confiscated, and the owner of it questioned and tried to validate the prosecutions.
