National Institute of Mental Health. (2017). Men and Depression. Retrieved from https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/men-and-depression/index.shtml

This article discusses the issue of depression in relation to men. The article asserts that there is a marked difference in how depression manifest in men from how it does in women. It also describes the signs of depression in men which include anger and disinterest in family and work. Moreover, the author explains the different types of depression, e.g., psychotic depression and seasonal effective disorder. I think that the difference that the author establishes between depression in men and women is important because members of the two genders respond to the condition quite differently.

Ranna Parekh, (2017). What is Depression? American Psychiatric Association. Retrieved from https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/depression/what-is-depression.

Ranna’s attempt to explain the difference between sadness and depression is crucial as one needs to realize when grief progresses to depression so that they can seek medical attention well on time.

The article by Deborah Wan intends to raise awareness of depression as a treatable condition. Deborah wants help both individuals and governments to realize the disease can be managed through a medical intervention, and thus change their attitude towards this otherwise non-fatal condition. Ann Pietrangelo and Kristeen cherney. (2017). The Effects of Depression in Your Body. Healthline. Retrieved from https://www.healthline.com/health/depression/effects-on-body#1

In this article, Ann and kristeen observe that though a good proportion of the American population, about 26% suffers from depression, only the majority of them cannot distinguish signs of depression from normal emotional reactions. They point out the fact that signs of depression resemble normal condition as the reason why people cannot make this distinction. Moreover, the authors argue that the disruption in brain function also produces symptoms in other areas of the body other than the brain. Such a clarification is vital since most people focus only on the mental signs of depression and forget the symptoms in other parts of their bodies.

The article by Holly Case focuses on the brain functions that are impaired in persons suffering from depression. Holly clarifies that depression does not only cause sad feelings but also affects the ability to learn, memory and language processing. I think this is important as the author sheds more light on one area rather than giving broke bits of information.
