The Importance and Significance of Civic Education

An analysis of the “What Is Education For?” research article that was written by Danielle Allen. The ‘Campaign for Fiscal Equity’ which also known as the ‘CFE,’ claims that the purpose of education is not only to develop vocational skills but also to develop civic agencies. In other words, students are required to learn in public schools the “basic literacy, measurement, and verbal skills necessary to ultimately allow children to act productively as civic participants able to vote and serve on a jury.”

On the other hand, as the defendant, the State strongly disagreed with the Court about civic education; argued that schools had fulfilled their responsibility to enable children “to function productively as civic participants eventually.” Not to mention that this level of education was sufficient to prepare for minimum wage labor. The implementation of civic education will be beneficial not only for the students but society. Therefore, leading to the creation of a community that has political equality and distributive justice.

The purpose of education as well as supporting the ideology of civic education. I agree that the use of education is considered as education in a democracy to prepare young people to become competent citizens throughout their lives. To put it differently, it is a causal force behind justice, which has regarded reading, writing, and communication as the fundamental instruments of political action. Not to mention that civic education does not only benefit individual students but also society as a whole would profit. In other words, it would be promoting both political equality as well as distributive justice. Additionally,  this is an untapped source of activism for educational freedom and on behalf of an equalitarian America..

They understand the relationship between education and equality. To put it another way, this perception starts with the acceptance that a strong democratic process, and thus, genuine political equality, which is helping to achieve equitable economic results. Therefore, an education-based not only on technical skills but also on what society defined as “participatory readiness” offers a distinct and better way of promoting equity through education. Importance to realize that this participatory model demands a higher education quality compared to the vocational standard, and achieving that public-school standard requires allocating more money to schools.

The contribution of civic education to the society.Civic education, in my view, contributes a great deal to inspire people to vote, show, sign, add to legislation, and volunteer for both candidates and political organizations. Not to mention that “super managers” and “hyper meritocracy” are the two dominant political ideologies that Thomas Piketty, a French economist, used to express his beliefs between civic education as well as equality. Danielle Allen also agrees that if political choices decide the rules that form distributive trends, it makes sense to concentrate first on equity, not economic, in political terms. If we choose political equality as our orienting ideal— empowering everyone to participate capably in political life— a different view of the purpose, content, and consequence of education is taken into consideration. This It illustrates that political and equality is another benefit that civic education brought.

The role of civic education in developing indices of cognitive involvement. I believe civic education plays a significant role in developing indices of cognitive engagement. To put it differently, it not only motivates young people to follow both government and public affairs but also produces a daily habit of students talking about politics with their family and friends. Not to mention that when civic education evolves deeper into students’ brains, they will then have a very profound political knowledge, and thus also have news attentiveness. At the same time, there are three vital essential components of a civic agent, including citizens, advocates, also known as political entrepreneurs; and the specialist, according to Allen. Together, these key components can advance both political, as well as equality, and distributive justice.

The civic purpose of education towards the growth of education. I agree with Debra Satz that we have lost focus on the civic mission of education. Also, the agreement of Debra to the information given by Daniella Allen is right that democracy depends on civic preparedness. I am against the thought that Debra Satz says that Daniella was unrealistic when she wants education to do the heavier lifting. There is a need for learning to be firm in making sure that civic purpose is achieved. The civic conception of knowledge is indeed fundamental for addressing the inequalities that are experienced and help in setting higher educational standards. The necessary departments should make sure that higher educational standards are achieved by education, getting the required resources. I agree that both the civic and vocational conception should aim for a higher threshold of attainment. When many people have acquired a college degree, the value of having a degree will depreciate in the job market. Therefore, there is a need for people to learn skills for the vocational institution that seems to be more valuable. There is a need to have equal effort in promoting both civic and vocational education. Combining both will help in strengthening the education system where students can still acquire their college degrees but always have access to much-needed skills.

Diagnoses of the problem with contemporary education policy. I support the argument of Rob Reich that Danielle critically makes the diagnoses of the problem with modern education policy. According to Rob, the goal on which public education is based is not the development of skills for competing in the global marketplace but the development of skills and disposition for creating an informed and engaged citizens. The primary education focus is to make sure that students gain the necessary knowledge that will help them in survival. I agree with Rob that there are better ways to make sure that we enforce civic education. There is no need for the incorporation of the participatory paradigm, according to Daniella. Therefore, there are better aspirations that are essential that can help in defending civic education. The humanities can indeed have a better defense that is valuable in their own right rather than as an instrument for informed civic education.I agree with Rob that there are many other avenues that children can learn and get skills. Hence, classrooms should not be referred to as the only space where children can learn participatory readiness. It should be noted that children can also learn in extracurricular activities. Therefore, I concur that religious associations, sports teams, neighborhood clubs should be part of the civic education offered in schools.

There is a need for substantial investment in education to make sure that children get the best knowledge. The necessary sectors should make sure that they invest both in vocational education and civic education. Since both forms of education have their target individual in society and combining both will create an invisible community in terms of education.Finally, the implementation of civic education will be beneficial not only for the students but society. Therefore, leading to the creation of a society that has political equality and distributive justice.
