Dimensional Analysis
Analysis of dimensional input is the mathematical method in which units of measure are changed and are used to solve a mathematical problem. It is a universal way that is used to solve mathematical problems and help students get through nursing school with ease (Craig,2019). Nurses are expected to understand and learn how to relate so they can easily recognise errors and quickly know when a problem arises example, an IV dosage or change in rate.
Dimensional analysis is applied in different ways in the nursing schools for learning and by the nursing practitioners. This includes methods like, to check how correct the formula used is, to evaluate and find the dimensions of dimensional constants and to convert the physical quantity from one system to another to help in its application in nursing.
Dimensional analysis is used by the nurses and pharmacists in finding out the right dose a patient should be given. Depending on the extent to which a patient is sick, then the calculations are done and the analysis of the dosage they should be subjected to over a certain period of time is determined. This help prevents the risk of having a patient overdose or taking a lesser dose than it should be. In the dimensional analysis, the calculation of the timeline by which a patient should heal is calculated, and thus the dose is given.
Nursing students who apply dimensional analysis stand a great chance to be able to interpret information and solve problems when they arise. There are different dimensions that nurses use in their field, which include scientific, technical, existential, aesthetic, and ethical aspects. This five-dimensional analysis sets the difference between nursing and other human practices. The five dimensions go hand in hand, and to help carry out an activity, they must all be applied and analysed thoroughly.

The results arrived at while carrying out dimensional analysis affect the administration and education of the nurses and also create an implication for human resource development in the health care unit. There are a number of importances of why nurses should study and apply dimensional analysis. These importance’s are, first, to help understand and simplify any complex problem and to make it easy to understand. There are some mathematical calculations that nursing students tackle, and by applying dimensional analysis, then they become simpler and easy to understand.
Secondly, dimensional analysis is a useful tool that facilitates solving of the impossible mathematical problems, and they are made easier to solve. It explains how to go about a problem step by step until a solution is arrived at. Lastly, it helps reduce the number of cases that are to be put into consideration so as to solve a problem by reducing the complexity of the mathematical problem at hand.
Dimensional analysis is basically the critical aspect that is applied in nursing, and all practitioners must understand and be able to analyse the key factors. These will reduce the chances of a problem occurring and going unnoticed. Its application is on solving the issues that arise and mostly through mathematical analysis and finding the best solution and preventing the problem from appearing again in the future.
