Comedies lighten people’s moods

Discussion 3

Comedies lighten people’s moods by making them laugh due to the humor in them. Various comedians have different techniques, which they use to make people laugh, for example, characteristic’s swap. It is never just about what they say but rather how they say it. Comedy is an art hence has no rules. People laugh about something since it captures their moment and contains an aspect of truth. People also have different senses of humor; hence a funny joke to one individual may not be amusing to another person. Jokes display humor and should not be taken too seriously. The ending punch line of a joke is what makes the audience realize that the story or dialogue contains another different meaning hence the culmination of the funniness. Comedians also make use of irony or even a reasonable incompatibility.

Ambiguity is any word or even a sentence, which is not understandable or clear concerning its intention or even meaning. Jokes or comedies that are founded on languages get their humorous authority via ambiguities evident in the English Language. Some jokes depend on sounds’ similarities, some on the ambiguous meaning of the word, while others depend on syntactic representations that are similar. In English, organized or structural ambiguity is favored by the language’s morphologic characteristics whereby a noun commonly has the same or a related verb’s form and vice versa. Structural uncertainty is also favored or supported where the verb’s past tense and also past participle coincide. Such ambiguity characteristics play a significant role in the creation of language-based comedies. Words or even sentences, which are ambiguous, can result in misunderstandings as people may get the incorrect meaning. As a result, disagreements can sometimes be severe. However, it can turn out funny, as well. That is the reason why jokes regularly depend on ambiguity.

Discussion 4

A fallacy is a defect, which weakens an argument. There are two main things regarding misconceptions. One is that fallacious arguments or debates are highly prevalent and can also be so persuasive. There are numerous examples of delusive disagreements or reasoning in advertisements, various newspapers, and different sources. Secondly, a fallacious argument is, at times, difficult to assess. It is not easy for one to know if a debate is erroneous or not. A real-life experience concerning the usage of a fallacy is when my friend and I were hanging out in a park and catching up after weeks of studying. My friend suddenly said that her physics class was tough. I also had the same opinion regarding my physics class. I backed her point entirely, and we were both in agreement that all physics classes were challenging. The fallacy that we used, in that case, was Hasty Generalization.

The fallacy did not go unnoticed as a young lady who was seated nearby heard our conversation. She excused herself for eavesdropping before joining us. She also challenged the fallacy and explained that she and her other friends were all in physics classes, and they all found it very interesting. She also said that we should not assume that physics classes are hard just because we found them hard. She added that there were even many other students she knew from various places who did not have the same opinion as we had. Before she left, she offered to help coach us physics so that we could at least comprehend it better. Out of that experience, I think making assumptions concerning something is not right, as it could be misleading due to its lack of adequate proof.

Various Schools, libraries, companies, government entities, etc., all create websites, which enable individuals to know more regarding their roles. People also create private blogs or websites to talk about their work, their friends, families, and other various subjects. Website owners print anything that they feel like, whether real or false. They are never worried about the consequences. For that reason, online life is rapidly and undoubtedly transforming the processes used to assemble and analyze information. There are, however, time-honored routines of making use of primary sources, singling out their authors, and substantiating the validity of the data provided. Writers, however, make use of additional tools to maintain the credibility of their sources. Examples of credible website sources are books, scholarly journals, and conference papers since they are peer-reviewed.

There are a few things that one can look for to determine if the source he or she is using is reliable. The first thing is the author. Any internet information that has listed authors or an author indicates that the site is credible. That shows that the authors or author is ready to support the data that he or she has provided. Another thing to look for is the date. The date of particular research is essential, with the inclusion of the information obtained. Dates help readers to know how recent the information is before using it. The other thing to look for is sources. Reliable sources, for example, books and also scholarly articles, are supposed to cite the presented information source. Domains are also essential as some like .com, .net, and .org can be bought and even used by individuals.

On the other hand, domains like .edu and .gov are reliable. The two are credible since .edu is usually reserved for universities and even colleges, while .gov indicates a government’s website. The writing style is also essential as the usage of poor grammar and also spelling suggests that the site is not reliable.

Human behavior defines the array of each physical action as well as observable emotion related to people and also the human race. Particular traits of a person’s personality, and even temperament could be more persistent while other behaviors change as the person grows. One of the manners of conduct that I possess is getting angered so quickly. I do not like the behavior, but most are the times that I cannot help it but get angry over minor issues. The manner of conduct could probably be due to lack of patient, people not appreciating my opinions or efforts, injustices, private problems and the stress that comes with it, boredom, nervousness, and fatigue.

It is not reasonable for various people’s behavior to have a common cause. Individuals are different hence behave differently. The root source of a particular action in a person cannot be the same root cause in another person’s behavior. People respond differently while in similar circumstances hence the reason why a common cause cannot be reasonable. One of the leading causes of the way humans behave is genetics, as human psychology and also behavior can be shaped by the evolutionary past. Some human traits are inherited from the parents and thus cannot be changed. Social norms can also affect various sections of a community in return affecting the way an individual behaves.

Generally, every individual is unique and behaves in a specific way, which could be due to various influences like the way one is brought up, past experiences, perceptions, beliefs, etc. It is, therefore, essential for individuals to try and accommodate one another as everyone has a positive and even negative side. A person could have a negative behavior of getting angry quickly but still has a good character of being helpful and mindful of others.

Asking for any omitted information requires critical thinking. As a critical thinker, the first thing to do is to break the argument into fundamental statements and also draw reasonable implications. The next way is to clarify the debate by locating ambiguity and also vagueness in the heated discussion and propositions. Establishing facts is the next step. It is essential to determine if the argument is reasonable and also identify any information which could have been omitted. It is also vital to decide on whether the implications are sensible and seek possible contradictory information.

The other step is to evaluate logic by determining whether the argument supports the conclusion. Generally, through asking questions, like asking crucial questions, one can detect a lot of essential missing information. Asking vital questions regarding ambiguity, using evidence, and the assumptions’ quality helps in the identification of any relevant missing information.

A major challenge that one can face while in search of the essential omitted information is the evidence presented. Statistics is among the most regularly used type of evidence. Such evidence or proof can be quite deceiving and impressive since numbers make a piece of evidence seem to be precise. Nevertheless, statistics can and regularly do lie. It is, therefore, vital for one to try hard and detect an erroneous statistical argument. Generally, the fact that evidence can be so convincing and require extra work to prove, it makes them a significant challenge faced by critical thinkers. Also, an individual’s probing queries can likely go unanswered. An individual can request essential, omitted information. However, that does not guarantee a gratifying answer or response as it is not willingly given. One has to make use of his or her critical thinking to help figure the answers out.

Discussion 8

Individuals require critical thinking in academics’ streams, in the business world, and life. Critical thinking is substantial and assists individuals in attaining the domains of prosperity in every aspect of life. It involves factors like decision making, problem-solving scope, healthy private and professional connections, and also having a thought-out and even detailed perception of overall situations. Several obstacles are a hindrance to critical thinking. One obstacle that I have noticed to have is group thinking, which is quite unhealthy as it prevents openness and creativity. I have realized that I have this obstacle since I never make any decision on my own in whatever situation. I always agree with what my friends decide, and despite their decisions being toxic at times, I still agree with them. Group thinking obstacle is not easy to overcome.

One strategy that could help me overcome this obstacle is by disconnecting the cycle. Cutting off the sequence would require me to stand on my own and not as a group, learning to question opinions, well-known ideas, and even thoughts. Learning to be an independent thinker would be the way to go to overcome the obstacle.

One way to overcome my personal biases is by accepting the fact that I have them. After all, everyone does. Another way is adjusting my perspective by trying to see things from another individual’s viewpoint. It would also be essential to hang around individuals with positive attitudes as they are likely to influence me positively. I would also try to be warmer and friendlier and also act more calmly when interrelating with individuals that I consider different. Generally, a positive attitude is everything as it influences a person’s thoughts, perceptions, and live positively. A positive attitude helps one become open up, become friendlier, and overcome personal biases easily.
