ETHICAL DILEMMA IN SOCIAL WORKS

Ethical dilemmas are a common thing with many employees in different organizations. In many instances, workers have to make the best decisions without violating any rules or hurting anybody for that matter. In the case of the social worker in the presented case, she has to choose an approach that she believes is best from her professional point of view, but that which will not hurt anybody in the process.

The case presented about the social worker elaborately covers the guidelines in the assignment, and the problem is outlined clearly by the student. The question is clear, and the student adopts an approach that is sensitive to the National Association of Social Workers (NWSA) to offer a solution. After giving this solution, he explains the reason why he thinks the decision made by the social worker is the best for the situation. Here, the student identifies the ethical solutions taken, and the NWSA code of ethics that are relevant to this case, as indicated in the guidelines.

NWSA Requirements

The laws of the NWSA advocate for inclusivity of children and district leaders are required to allocate more funds to the areas that have been disadvantaged by poverty to give all students an equal opportunity to compete academically with their counterparts. (Florian, L et al., 2016); this helps bridge the achievement gap of these children, therefore giving them a platform to excel in academics. I agree with these standards, and it is my opinion that equality has to be achieved, a system of utilitarianism has to be adopted. All parties need to be content, and every student is, therefore, comfortable with their learning environment.

The challenge here is to navigate through pressure by the teachers and give a solution that will be in line with the NWSA regulations. The social worker needs to do this carefully, though, as the solution he is offering requires the involvement of the teachers in executing the rules given. From the teachers’ observations, however, the main problem with the student is not academic, but that of character, and they believe she is having anger issues. How the social worker addresses the situation is excellent, and she can involve the teachers in his suggestion. Here, the case approach should explain how this solution is in line with the NWSA standards of inclusivity and equality. (Edwards et al., 2015). It is, however, clear from that the ethical decision used in bringing equality is that of fairness and justice.

In light of this, however, she also need not assume the observations of the teachers, as a discipline also plays a vital role in academic excellence. The recommended approach, therefore, has to incorporate the report by the teachers and use that in giving an expert opinion on the matter, before arriving at a specific plan. The Individualized Education Program (IEP) workers play a critical role in a child’s holistic development, and its members are parents, teachers, the school representatives, service agency representatives, and the students themselves (Dimitrijoska et al., 2016). All these team members play an integrative role in enhancing the child’s performance in school, his conduct and behavior even when at home; this has to show the relationship that exists between a student’s character and his performance in school.

Conclusion

The presentation by the student introduces the ethical problem, explains the problem elaborately, and adopts a solution that is in line with NASW regulations. In so doing, all the given guidelines are followed, and the presentation is satisfactory. With a few inputs from the stakeholders, as mentioned earlier, the solution to the stated problem now becomes active, and it helps prevent a similar occurrence from the same student. The issue reported in the case, though, accurately addresses an ethical dilemma problem, and it sufficiently follows the given guidelines to come up with a solution. It represents a practical challenge faced by a social worker, and what this means in offering a solution that is in the best interest of the society at large.
