Mental Health Week
Section A
I have chosen the subject of eating disorders as a mental disorder because about 30 million people in the US suffer from the condition. The mortality rate of people with eating disorders is 0ne per hour. Therefore, I felt there is an urgency to understand if people actually know of the existence of eating disorders. I will be using the Healthline website and an article by Hudson et al. (2007) to research me on my subject.
Healthline. (n.d). Anorexia vs. Bulimia: What’s the Difference? Retrieved from https://www.healthline.com/health/eating-disorders/anorexia-vs-bulimia
I chose this source because it deeply analyses the subject of eating disorders. It highlights two types of eating disorders, which are anorexia v. Bulimia. It covers its signs and symptoms, causes, diagnosis, complications, and support. This will provide the necessary information I need when interviewing my target population; I can use this information in the formulation of my interview questions. I trust this source because it has been medically reviewed, therefore I believe that the information provided is reliable and variable.. Hudson, J. I., Hiripi, E., Pope, H. G., & Kessler, R. (2007). The Prevalence and Correlates of Eating Disorders in the National Comorbidity Survey Replication. Biol Psychiatry. 61(3): 348-358
I chose this source because it is from NCBI, which is a reliable source for bio information, and has therefore been reviewed. The source also covers the two types of eating disorders, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia nervosa. The authors undertook a survey where they interviewed about 9282 adults on their eating patterns. I find this source reliable because the researchers thoroughly indicate how they went about the research while following ethical considerations of research. They then present their findings and draw conclusions from the results. Therefore, I find the source reliable and variable too.

Section B
One of the strategies that I aim to use in my self-care plan is good exercise. Every morning, I would go for a run, even if it was for thirty minutes. During my run, I would listen to such soft music. Running gave me time to be alone to reflect on my life. It also rejuvenated me because, somehow, while running, I could think better. After running, I would take water and a hot bath. This would make me feel fresh and ready to kick off the day. Somehow running made me happy. I checked it up on the internet and discovered that whenever I ran, my body produces endorphins, which are natural painkillers. They help reduce stress and make one happy. This explains why morning runs brightened my day. I have some trouble sleeping before I started my morning runs. However, with running, my ability to sleep improved, and I could sleep eight straight hours like a baby. Most of the time, I woke up tired, but somehow after I started running, this ceased. I am going to continue implementing this strategy because I feel it will be of great use to both my mental health and physical health.
