The Top Four Most Important Cultural Heritages of a Community

A cultural heritage means the legacy obtained from the intangible characteristics of a particular group of people or their physical artifacts. Most often, the legacy is inherited from past generations. Therefore, people in the given community identify with the given elements and attain some level of pride being part of them. Cultural heritages are often protected as a show of gratefulness to past generations, which did their best to ensure that they survive to date (Barthel-Bouchier, 2016). Further, the protection is often aimed at enabling future generations to also benefit from them. In the end, a positive chain is developed around the elements which give all people in the community something to be happy about. In my home community of Cobb County, Georgia, I identify the following a cultural heritages; William Root House Museum & Garden, Green Plantation, Leonidas Polk Monument and the Museum of History and Holocaust Education. The narrative aims to describe cultural heritage and to show how they make to make the community unique.

Discussion

William Root House Museum & Garden specifically entails a house that was constructed in circa 1845 for Hannah and William Root. These were among the early settlers to Marietta. William had moved to Marietta from Philadelphia in 1839. He later married Hannah, and they bought a piece of land where they established the home. They became merchants and on arriving at the community, established drug stores. In 1893, two years after the death of William, the land where the house stood was divided into two. In one section, a library was constructed. The house was moved on another section of the land (Root House Museum, 2020). The home is a cultural heritage as it offers people the opportunity to

look into the lives which the Root family-led and how they treated the four slaves they had in their home. Also, it enables people to have a loot of the various antiques displayed adequately on multiple parts of the home. The vintage nature of the antiques also adds to their beauty and enables people to establish how valuable they are.

Green Plantation was established in the 1840s as the Green-Bullard House. At the time, it served as a field hospital for the Confederate forces during the Civil War. It is currently owned by Cobb County on which it is used as a multipurpose park and community garden. The heritage offers significant value to people of the community as it shows the general nature of hospitality that the people within the stand to offer. Generally, it reminds them of the value that lies in having the ability to care for one another. Essentially, people must show that they have a concern for the affairs of one another. It is through the process that they are more likely to treat each other in ways that show that they care (Cobb Landmarks, 2020). The park offered within site also provides people with the chance to relax and experience the happiness which lies in being part of the community. Mainly, people can identify more with the various opportunities offered within it. Since the services offered within are free, they are meant to make all people in the county feel attached to it and ensure that it is preserved for future generations.

The Leonidas Polk Monument is located on the side of a road on top of Pine Mountain. It is a 20-foot marble erected to commemorate Lieut. Gen. Leonidas Polk. He fell on the very spot where the monument was erected on June 14, 1864. Polk was also an Episcopal Bishop. Polk had been an inspiration to his juniors during the Civil War, and his death was a massive blow to them. He had been significantly instrumental to them (History.net, 2020). Therefore, they had looked upon him as a pillar of strength and the motivation to continue fighting. Erecting the pillar was deemed necessary as a way of commemorating the impact which Polk had borne on his community.

Generally, the cultural heritage is of great importance in that it reminds people of the community of the value which they need to put on resilience. Generally, people must be interested in being of great service to their communities. In just the same way that Polk had served during the Civil War, it is also necessary for them to consider being of great service to their community (History.net, 2020). The concept will serve as a great indicator of the fact that they are aware of the significant roles which they stand to play within their communities. Primarily, they can consider the effects which they stand to bear within their communities. The monument reminds people that they must be more focused on looking into ways in which they could be of value to their community.

The Museum of History and Holocaust Education is a facility that offers information about the Holocaust and the general effects which it had on Georgia. Although the Holocaust was not experienced in the US, a significant number of Jews escaping it during WWII moved into the country to seek refuge. The cultural heritage in the county is essential as it reminds people of the ills that can occur in society and the reason people need to be keen on avoiding them (Kennesaw University, 2020). As people visit the museum, they can establish the extent of harm that can occur where they allow bigotry to come in their way and fail to identify with the necessity to be considerate of one another. Therefore, the museum is instrumental in showing that people need to be interested in determining what connects them.

Conclusion

The four cultural heritages in Cobb County, GA, are important in enabling people in the community to have something which they can easily identify with. For instance, as for the William Root House Museum & Garden, people need to establish how good it might have felt being a wealthy merchant in the 1800s. Further, the Green Plantation helps to remind the people of Cobb County of the value that lies in being hospitable. Therefore, they need to show others that they care about them. The Leonidas Polk Monument is vital in reminding people of the strong need which they should bear in terms of being of service to their community. The Museum of History and Holocaust Education helps to show that people need to shy away from acts of bigotry. Generally, the sites serve an important role within the Cobb County community.
