Under the topic, ‘Losing Your Way,’ a leader lives by his values, beliefs, and principles that encompass the deepest level of who he is. People naturally love authentic leaders because of their ability to cope with the challenges that life presents. The inability to control seductions and pressures such as the need to make more money makes leaders detour from their True North. CEO Sara Lee quotes that good character, values, and beliefs guide one’s life. Good leaders should not lose internal compass but rather let values guide their actions (George, 42).

Further, under the topic ‘The Rise of Authentic Leaders,’ readers learn that leaders should focus on moving towards authenticity, discovering their True North, leading with purpose, and showing a higher level of emotional intelligence. The topic on ‘Self-Awareness’ explains that organizations should not choose leaders based on their physical appearance, leadership styles, charisma; instead, they should be selected according to their substance and character (George, 77-79). Instead of leaders prioritizing on their self-interests, they should learn to be authentic to ensure effective and sustainable leadership.

The Self-awareness topic was the most helpful because it teaches on values that leaders should uphold to ensure that their character is reflected in their leadership.
