NURS 561 HEALTH PROMOTION AND DISEASE PREVENTION
Discussion Prompt #1
Response to Lisa Otten
Hello Lisa, thank you for the more elaborative and educative discussion. It is important to listen to patients to assess their level of knowledge and then ascertain any education they might need. Health promotion values are most likely to conflict with the values of various patients. However, the conflict in values should not affect the treatment of the patient or the relationship between the nurse and the patient negatively. Some of the conflicts might be a result of the patient’s lack of awareness; hence it is recommended that whenever a nurse realizes patient’s unawareness, they should assume the responsibility of educating the patient (Feo et.al. 2017). The nurse should assure the patient of the privacy of any information they may reveal for them to feel confident with the nurse.

Response to Kayleigh Moore
Hello Kayleigh, I support you in your discussion that nurses should observe respect, dignity and privacy when dealing with patients. Nurses should demonstrate high levels of professionalism when dealing with patients, and such professionalism may include honouring the various culture of various patients. For instance, some nurses may prefer shaking of hands with their patients, whereas the culture of the patients may not allow shaking of hands. When engaging patients about their conditions, it is advisable that the nurse maintain eye contact with the patient, though not constant eye contact and make smiles at certain intervals in order to engage the patient in the conversation (Ersser, 2019).

Discussion Prompt #2
Response to Joshua Martin
Hello Joshua, thank you for your demonstration of the concept of time and how you educated your patient. For my case, I encountered a patient who was concerned about the privacy of her data. My patient, Kathleen, was reluctant to reveal to me information about her health condition because she felt her information would not be secure. I had a tough time with my patient, but in the end, I won the case. I had to take her through our organization’s privacy and confidentiality policy which was available on the organization’s website. I also gave her a hard copy of the policy; she went through it and later explained to her. Apart from the privacy policy, I informed her that the patient’s data was preserved in secure systems that used modern technology (Justesen, Eskerod, Christensen & Sjøgaard, 2017).

Response to Lisa Otten
Hello Lisa, thank you for your efforts towards ensuring the doctors understood the conditions of the baby and for making a follow up to ensure that the parents were enlightened. When faced with such problems, the ethical decision-making process we should embrace involves first identifying the problem at hand (Pozgar, 2019). After understanding the problem, the nurse should then evaluate the problem together with the patient and any other stakeholder. The third stage is the generating of alternatives and choosing the most appropriate that will solve the identified problem. Finally, one should put the selected solution to solve the problem and help the patient.
