Clinical Field – Experience D: Targeted Teaching Activities Institutional Affiliation

Introduction

Aligning teaching activities with learning standards is a critical teaching practice aimed at ensuring efficiency. The method is always considered in dealing with teaching activities, objectives, and evaluations. Targeted teaching is applied in the same manner so that the teacher proficiently meets the needs of the learner. An excellent practice to know the needs of the student is gathering data through various means of evaluations for effective planning in the targeted teaching practice. This paper discusses the targeted teaching activity considered for improving the English leaning capabilities of student A.

The targeted teaching activity considered for improving the skills of the student focuses on reading and writing with the use of various learning materials. The learning materials are created to strengthen the literary skills of the student in reading and pronouncing words. They should enable the student to learn pronunciation and sound through the use of words, sentences, poems, pronunciation markup, and stories. The targeted teaching practice should improve the skills of the student in learning English. The teaching practice should enable the student to learn about reading by listening to the words I read from the materials and also interacting with him to improve his sounding skills. The practice would be vital in keeping track of student’s improvement and monitoring his progress.

In my conversation with the mentor teacher regarding the objectives, activities, and assessments we discussed the efficacy of the targeted teaching plan and how it should benefit student A. The activities involved in the teaching plan include reading words, directing the student to read, listening to how the student reads, and knowing his fluency in reading. This should pertain to teaching the student to read words, sentences, poems, and stories correctly. The main objective of the targeted teaching activity is to improve the skills of the student in reading and sounding words. To assess the student, I will rely upon reading stories, writing, and quizzes to keep assessing how the student is faring. Writing and reading words concerning typical issues and areas of life should engage the student and make it easy to know his level of learning, capabilities, and understanding during the teaching.

The design of the targeted teaching plan was contingent on the weaknesses and the strengths of the student in reading and sounding words. It is designed to meet student needs by focusing on the type of words that challenge the student in writing and pronunciation. Such kind of learning ensures efficiency in the delivery process so that by aiming at his needs, desired improvement can be attained. The targeted teaching plan was assessed in regard to the learning and reading objectives of the student to ensure its convenience. I would also implement such practices of teaching literary skills with the use of various learning materials to enable a student to learn words, sentences, poems, and stories. The practice would target specific capabilities of each student with the application of quizzes, engagement, questioning, et cetera, as the main methods of assessment to keep enhancing their learning.
