One of my short term goals was to develop interpersonal skills and capabilities as well as establishing accurate diagnoses. Interpersonal skills and abilities entail how I initiate, interact, engage, and maintain effective communication that will enable the collection of relevant and accurate information to develop accurate differential diagnoses and establish the primary diagnoses.
Journal for Week Six
Consider the most beneficial evidence-based non-pharmacological and pharmacological management of the present condition
Prioritize patient care and negotiate with the patient the plan of care that is appropriate to meet their needs.
Maintenance of professional boundaries and patient confidentiality throughout the care
Demonstrate critical thinking in all my clinical decision making and modify the intervention (non-pharmacological and pharmacological) as appropriate based on the patient’s needs and outcome.
Adequately and accurately play the role of the healthcare provider and educator and incorporate tin the nurse practitioner’s roles and articulate the roles to the public as well as the healthcare team.
My second short term goal was to develop relevant clinical experiences that will help me work independently full time. This requires that I develop and demonstrate more exceptional critical thinking and mindfulness in my clinical decision and respond accordingly according to patient needs and outcomes following the intervention. In the outpatient, I am aware that I will deal mostly with emergencies, also I will specialize in areas such as pediatric and family medicine which necessitate prudent decision-making abilities. These come with clinical experience that I will gain after considering interpersonal skills, prioritize patients care, evidence-based interventions, and practicing excellent decision-making and mindfulness throughout my practice.
Journal for Week Seven
COVID 19 has impacted every aspect of care. Currently, efforts are directed towards curbing the pandemic to the extent that other patients may be less care for. A most qualified registered nurse and nurse practitioners are likely to hired to help contain the COVID 19. This will leave junior and a few professionals to care for other patients. COVID 19 is pressurizing the healthcare in every corner. Resources such as personal protective equipment are greatly used in managing COVID 19 currently; thus, few of these resources may be left to be used for caring for other patients. Besides, the pandemic has led to the cessation of clinical practicums, and classwork which is likely to impact student knowledge and experience since this gap may cause relaxation among students; thus difficulty remembering. Licensing rules are also relaxed to allow more professionals to contain and fill possible gaps in the healthcare workforce. As a family nurse practitioner, I will ensure that the best, safe, quality and affordable care is provided to patients in the primary care office regardless of the situation. I will collaboratively work with every healthcare professional, patient, and community to ensure that every patient receives the best care while exploiting the available resources to provide the patient care and services.
I have chosen to discuss the case study, one involving Lori, who is a certified family nurse practitioner certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Prescription Authority for certified family nurse practitioners includes patient evaluation, diagnosis, ordering, diagnostic test interpretation, and initiating and managing treatment, including drug prescriptions. However, the scope still depends on the state where the nurse practitioners work.
Lori has to register with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) because the response of a nurse practitioner includes administration and prescription of the drug. The process involves applying online through the United States Department of Justice website. Still, Lori can as well cal the DEA Headquarter Registration Unit at 800-882-9539 and request for the order form, which will be mailed within ten working days. Lori will complete the requisition form, often known as the DEA Form 222a, and send it back within thirty days from the date the form was mailed to the recipient to DEA Registration Unit. DEA often gives the applicant the address to mail the form after completion.
Lori should observe the following prescription practices to ensure a safe prescription. Firstly, Lori should establish, evaluate and define the patient presenting problem, determine the drug therapy’s therapeutic objective, select the most appropriate medication and then provide comprehensive information to the patient regarding including the warnings and instruction. Also, Lori should monitor the patient regularly, determine and consider the cost of drugs during prescription, if possible, go for the cheapest drugs that will achieve the same desired outcome. Lastly, Lori use exploits relevant tools, including prescription software and electronic drug reference, during a prescription to lessen prescription mistakes.
