Drug abuse has risen significantly in recent years. This is due to the increase in demand by the users and the increase in accessibility in the market. Heroin and cocaine are among the highly abused drugs currently.
Reasons for increased heroin use in recent years
It is true that currently, heroin is not just available in the earlier presumed dark corners. In the united states, for instance, it is finding its ways from the alleys no urban environment to the rural and suburban areas. It means that heroin use has cut across all the demographic groups making it one of the most abused drugs among the current population. Increased heroin availability is the first reason for the increase in the use of the drug in recent years. With the increased demand from the growing number of heroin users, the availability is easy since the manufacturers try to match the demand. The increased availability of the drug in the market results in upsurge use by a fourfold. When the drug is readily available, there are high chances that the number of new users also go on the rise (Belackova et al.,2017). People are always curious. Once they get a taste of the drug, they become addicts and frequent users and introduce other more people close to them in the habit. Another reason behind the increase in the use of heroin is the low street price as compared to the past years. Individuals can quickly get drugs from the dealers without financial constraints as compared to the past when the drug was costly.

The international community’s attempt to eradicate heroin trafficking in Afghanistan has been possible since the activity is the primary source of livelihood in the population. The poppy growing backbone of the Afghanistan economy (Shen et al.,2018). Afghanistan government itself has invested in the business, making policies that make it hard for international attempts to stop it successfully.
Prevalence of cocaine use among the youths
Cocaine use among the youth has been increasing in the past years. Most cases of the incidence among college and university students. The increased use in these groups of people is because of easy access and interactions. Students get influenced by their friends and end up in cocaine abuse. Prolonged use results in addition to the students, and they end up having the drug-related problems.
Drug use in Miami
Miami is one of the cities that has been hit with an increased rate of drug abuse. Miami is a port. Therefore, drug traffickers find it easy to ship the drugs through the ports. Drug smuggling through the ports is easy, making Miami affected by the issue.
In conclusion, heroin and cocaine abuse are on the increase as compared to the past decades due to easy accessibility and low market prices.
