Courageous Faith review
From the reading entitled Courageous Faith, there is a list of fascinating characters: men and women who gave their all for the benefit of their people. Some of these characters are well-known personalities like Abraham who is commonly referred to as the father of faith, Abel who became the first martyr in the bible, Enoch, the man who walked with God, Noah, the righteous man and Gideon who is known as the reluctant warrior. Yet, there are minor heroes and heroines from the reding such as Rahab who was the spy for the Israelites among others. The following paper shall be founded on the character of Gideon as one of the notable characters found in the chapter.
Gideon is among the twelve judges of Israel. He is not discussed much in the book of Hebrews. However, a lot of details is revealed in the book of Judges. He is depicted as a doubtful leader who kept on questioning the ability of God to deliver His people from the battle. He was aware of his weaknesses as a person. Here, the first idea that is manifested from the reading is that God works with anyone with all the gaps that a person may have. Despite being doubtful and fearful as Gideon was, God still chose him as one of the warriors of the Israelites. It is imperative to underscore that God uses people in their weaknesses and make them appear firmer at the end. From this reading, it is apparent that all human beings, full of their shortcomings as they could be, are more robust vessels in the eye of God. Despite the inconsistencies in Gideon’s life in relation to matters of faith, God still chose to work with him to win wars and liberate His people. Thus the idea underpinning this meekness is that Lord can choose to work with anyone to achieve marvellous things, even if in the eyes of the people the character is perceived to be weak.
An encounter with Gideon portrays him as someone who is curious and doubtful. He doubted the power of God and questioned if he would be able to deliver the Israelites from the war. The lesson from this character trait portrayed by Gideon is that Christians should trust in God. Again Gideon is seen picking Midianite gold to make a symbol image of God. Here he is represented as a person of little faith. But God made him believe that through his intervention, all is well. So the moral lesson here is that God is omnipresent and does not need to be likened to any image. Those who are chosen by God should, therefore, show full submission and total faith in the powers of God alone. Again Gideon was weak when it came to prosperity, but God helped him using lamps, trumpets and pitchers to win the battle against the enemy. From this act, the lesson is that God can make the impossible things possible.
The insights from this reading are quite relevant to present-day Christians. They encourage Christians to have confidence in their little ability and show trust in God for prosperity. I can apply the lessons learned from the character of Gideon in promoting the spirit of industry. Christians need to be industrious and should not be taken aback by their weaknesses.
