My New Canadian Life

In March 2018, my parents and I decided to move to Canada. The main reason for us moving was my father, who is a neural surgeon, got a job transfer from NewYork to Canada. The surprising thing is that I have never thought of settling permanently in Canada. All I ever wanted was just to come here as a tourist experience the culture and scenarios. The first time my father broke the news of us moving, I had mixed feelings about the whole situation. I was happy for my father because he was getting the job of his dream as a chief surgeon, but on the other hand, I was sad to leave my friend and move to a new place where I knew no one.

On arrival in Canada due to the long flight hours, I was so tired I had, and the weather change from what I was used to the new Canadian weather my body almost went on a shock.  I remember feeling sad and all alone thinking of how I had no friends and how this new life will be for me. I think it’s true that time changes everything because after a few months In Canada I had already joined a new school and found friends who made me feel at home and no longer feeling alone. The only fear I had when I came into this country was the fear of not being accepted or finding a group I can associate or have a relationship with.

Since my arrival in Canada, I have had a lot of experiences, but one stood out from the rest. I remember walking in a supermarket and asking for a soda, and everyone looked at me strangely until one young girl told me that in Canada, they call them pops. The big difference between Canada and the USA, where I came from, is the weather. Canadian weather is cold, and the winters are harsh than in the USA, which makes me miss New York and summer times. I realized that most of the Canadian land is uninhabited and that they have national parks bigger than some countries. I am now getting used to this new life, and I have enjoyed the Canadian food and the culture.
