The Processes and Completion of the Art Project

For any art project to be successful, be it a drawing, a collage, a painting, or a sculpture, there should be a process or trajectory of going about it to achieve good results (DeWitte et al.). Though sometimes the steps may not progress correctly based on the process, one may need to move back and forth within the creative processes. When creating a drawing, several processes are to be followed. For instance, there should be that inspiration from the artist, percolation, which is visually playing with the ideas one has gathered, preparing the tools that are supposed to be used, creation of the drawing, where the artist enters into the actual work of drawing images, and reflecting on it maybe with friends and family members to identify areas that need to be edited to come up with excellent drawings. These processes have to go hand in hand with the elements of art. For instance, line quality, perspective, color theory, balance, and shading of the images. Therefore, it is a process that requires steps to create.

The first process is inspiration, which is the most crucial process of creating art. Though it is challenging to identify what inspires people to create arts, one may be inspired by fine arts, films, something from nature, or something that has occurred in one’s life (DeWitte et al.). For example, when one is in a bus station, an idea may strike his or her mind to come up with a drawing on a certain event or object seen at the bus station. Hence inspiration can occur anytime, anywhere, depending on the events taking place or natural things.

Secondly is the percolation process. It may not be a desirable stage of creating art, but it is a vital process. Percolation is the time that passes after having the idea of artistic creation but before the start of the art creation. This stage involves visually playing around with the ideas. For instance, one may start drawing sketches of the ideas. Sometimes it may involve giving time to the ideas to grow (DeWitte et al.). During this process, there is part of somebody that is processing the thoughts. Therefore percolation is necessary as it gives one enough time to process the ideas of the art.

The third process is preparing the tools used for art. Though sometimes preparation may be confused with percolation, the preparation process is more active and more focused. Percolation is the stage where one swings into the action of making things happen (DeWitte et al.). It involves the time one spends in assembling the necessary materials or supplies and creating a blueprint of the drawing. During this time, one establishes the outline of the project or making a rough drawing. For instance, the picture below shows the image drawn during this preparation stage.

The drawings in this stage do not need to be recognizable. The drawing emphasizes balancing in art creation, where careful planning of various subjects is essential. When balancing is factored in a picture, it makes it pleasant. During the balancing process, the size has to be put into account. For example, the art drawing below shows that the artist considered balancing the drawing on the surface. The image is well distributed within the drawing surface, the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the paper. Therefore, the image appears appealing and harmonious, though it is still in the preparation stage.

The fourth process is the creation stage. During the creation stage, the actual work of drawing is done. Though the creation process may depend on the temperament of the artist, one has to come up with a good drawing.  The drawing work is less in this stage since most of the work had been done in the previous stage (DeWitte et al.). What remains is, therefore, color theory and shading. This color theory is a principle that offers guidance on color relationships and their combined impacts. It is a theory that is very important in understanding colors. The most important thing for an artist to know about color theory is the application of these colors and the relationship between these colors.

The color theory is a term that has been used on the image below is value. For instance, how dark or light the color is. In this case, the artist has applied dark and light colors. Though value is a concept that is supposed to be easily understood, the use of many different colors may be a challenging task. Artists consider value more crucial than the color that is used in painting because the value sets a good structure for one’s painting or drawing (DeWitte et al.). Therefore, in the diagram below, the artist started with the highest value, which is white, then followed by black. In between the two colors, grayscale is used. Here, the black color reduces the value while the white color increases the value. Shades have been used by adding different levels of black and white. Therefore, in the drawing, the artist has applied colors and shades to make the image understandable.

The fifth process reflection. During this time, the artist may not be very sure of the drawing; hence he or she may decide to share with friends, family members, hanging on the wall, or presenting it to the client. So whatever the completion level of the project, the artist has to reflect on it. Reflection depends on an individual artist (DeWitte et al.). For example, for some artists, it may create a post- creative depression, which makes them feel a bit empty. Others may think that they are relieved because they consider it done, then they proceed on to the next item. Moreover, others may regret it. They wish they would have done one thing or the other on the drawing or painting.

The element of arts that has been applied to the drawing below is line quality. It is an essential aspect of the picture that ensures the structure of images is more realistic. Line quality is the thickness of the lines. These lines indicate elements like weight and lighting on the drawing. Based on the image below, the artist has applied line quality to express the texture of some parts of the drawing, for instance, on the drawing of strands of hair. The strands of hair have been drawn using a faint sketched line to indicate that each strand is very thin. Therefore, by looking at it, one can be able to imagine how the strands feel when touched. On the other hand, the lines used on the graduation hat show that the cap is rough because the lines at the top are thick. Hence it indicates that it is a hard material.

Moreover, lighting has been used on the drawing. For example, the shadowed points on the image have been represented by heavier lines. Therefore, the use of the different weights of lines enables people to see where you want their eyes to go to. The use of the same line weights makes the drawing too dull because one may not identify the different parts of the image.

To conclude, the process of coming up with a thriving art project is trajectory. It is a process that that goes through several stages before its completion—for instance, the inspiration stage which, involves the artist being inspired on by objects or nature. The second one is percolation, which is visually playing around with the ideas one has. Thirdly, is the preparation of the required tools for the drawing like a pencil, charcoal, and rulers where necessary, and erasers, creation stage, where the artist draws the image, and reflection stage where the artist reflects on the image through sharing with others and makes the final touches on it. Additionally, when an artist is creating an art project, they have to consider various elements of art projects. For example, line quality will enable the artist to display multiple parts of the image according to how they look.

Moreover, color theory and shading is crucial in image drawing because it acts as a guiding principle to the artist on how to apply different colors and the relationship that exists between these colors. Lastly, it involves balancing of the image on the drawing surface. For instance, the image should be well-positioned in terms of left, right, top, and bottom of the drawing surface.
