Adoption and Strategies Proposal
Background
In scenarios where natural disasters occur the importance of reliable communication is under-appreciated. Reliable communication allows quick response to the areas where disasters have occurred; reliable communication will enable the response to provide aid to affected individuals in the shortest time possible (Kiniry, 2017). UMRS is an organization that prides itself in providing solutions that will ensure a reliable response to the areas that disasters have occurred. UMRS sole mission is to provide the latest technological advancements that will help during the crisis. The organization help consumers of their technological products reduce the response time needed to get aid the affected individuals. This research paper aims to analyze innovative solutions that the company could adopt to improve response time.
Innovative Technologies
The innovative technologies proposed to help UMRS meets its requirements include All-Terrain Solar Trailer, Emergency Telecommunications Cluster, and IPstar Satellite Backhaul with WiMax. The best of the above innovations will be chosen so that the organization can implement and put it to use. The cases are transportable on commercial flights and allow emergency response partners such as Télécoms sans Frontières to respond immediately to any disaster.
Phase
IPstar Satellite Backhaul with WiMax is the innovative technology that has been chosen to help the organization to help its response time. MCC at the organization will aid in comprehending where satellite backhaul and WiMax are in their technology lifecycle we need a brief history of each technology. The innovative technology chosen by UMRS takes advantage of the satellite to provide a communication medium for cellular backhaul (ESOA, n.d). Cellular backhaul in cellular communication describes a service medium that occurs between base stations and radio control stations. Cellular backhaul, in most cases, is done over copper wires, fibre optics and in some instances through wireless mediums. At the UMRS organization, MCC will act as the base station where backhaul will provide communications over satellite network and back to the telecommunication service providers. At the MCC end, there will be radios for cellular and WiMax connectivity. Satellite communications have been used as a method of backhaul since early 2000. Timeline and Implementation process
Poor implementation of innovative technologies will lead to a failure of innovation. The timeline for the implantation of technologies should also be right. The timeline for implementation of technology at UMRS organization is as follows: 1) Finalize plans to secure the HUMVEE for the project and supplier for communication equipment need to be identified by the organization, 2) a plan to optimize and test the technological innovation need to be formulated, 3) a prototype to complete the system is designed, 4) key customers invited to test the prototype of the product and, 5) production process. Step 2 in this plan has some possible differences in approach and timeline and is the main point of variability in the timeline of the project. Every implementation has been elaborated in detail in the paragraphs below.
1 – Securing vehicle and equipment.
With natural disasters, one never knows when they can be in a crisis. Emergency response organizations have to always be prepared. Securing vehicle and necessary equipment is the first step towards crisis preparedness. UMRS organization has taken care of that by securing vehicle contracts with AMG, a company that manufactures military Humvee Vehicles. Emergency vehicles once the two parties come to an agreement on the exact needed specifications and the prices of the vehicles. Few samples will be secured to help put to the test the MCC system prototype. The two organization will discuss terms like, will AMG supply vehicles that have all the accessories fitted or come with options. The accessories for the vehicles are not limited to onboard power generation equipment and the ability to come prewired with sufficient power outlets for the generator and transmission of data.
2 – Plan for technology testing and optimization
A given conversion will be used to determine which of the available options performs better. Researchers will carry out experiments and analyze data to determine the impact of change. Testing a product before implanting will take the guesswork out of the optimization. It allows managers at the institution to make informed decisions. The company will determine if it has the internal knowledge or they will need outside opinions which will be important to gather the knowledge to implement the project. A Prototype for the project will build after the project has been initiated. If the prototype works well, the organization will proceed to develop the product. Before the production of the product, the product needs to be tested, and feedback analyzed.
Variables
There are a number of variables that can delay the implementation of a project. Employees preparedness to new technology is one factor that delays the implementation of new technology for any organization. Employees at the organization should be flexible and always prepared to accept change. Employees will need to be taken through training programs to familiarize with new technology. The existing level of technology savvy existing inn the organization will depend on what levels of training that employees need to be exposed to. Training will allow employees to accept and embrace technological advancements easy.
