Aeneid Response Paper

Reflection

After Troy’s destruction, the Prince of Aeneas-Trojan leads a small group of survivors in searching of a new home within Italy. Unluckily, when they are sailing on their way, the band is spotted by the Juno, who is the goddess. The goddess hates the Prince with passion. This is simply because of the old resentment. They are destined towards becoming Romans who shall ravage Carthage-the most favorite city of Juno. She conspires with the gods of wind to rattle off a storm, compelling Trojans in taking asylum within Carthage.  Fortunately, Aeneas has links. Ideally, his mother, Venus, who is the goddess of connections, introduces him to Dido.  Dido is a widow from the Carthage. She is a beautiful queen (Baym, Nina, and Robert 977). Eventually, Dido attempts to get Amor-love personification to make Dido love Aeneas madly. During that night, in honor of banquet, Dido receives all the information from Aeneas on the capturing events of Troy. Aeneas narrates as well as how he escaped with his father-Anchises -carrying him at the back. During the period, Aenea’s son-Ascanius, too, survived as his wife died in the melee. Aeneas became single during that unfortunate event.  Afterward, Aeneas similarly narrates to Dido the way he has been wading over the sea together with his fellow refugees.  He recounted his happenstances with different strange mythical creatures. The narrative of Aeneas terminates with the father’s death.

Trojans, together with Aeneas, culminate in spending their winter within Carthage.  Dido and Aeneas become one.  Jupiter starts wondering about Aeneas. He is abandoning the new city which his destiny has established. The god of Mercury is sent down to inform him to get moving up to his destined city.  Just like he has been notified, Aeneas complies with the information as received from the Mercury god. Eventually, Dido murders herself (Baym, Nina, and Robert 981).

Trojans is compelled to by the storm to land within the city of Sicily. This is the exact place where Anchises was burred one year ago. As Trojans take part in the athletic contests in honor of the older man, Juno prevails on Trojans women to set ablaze the ships. Noticing that everyone is not feeling jazzed of traveling to Italy just as he feels, Aeneas abandons some individuals while at Sicily city as he takes a ship to Italy jointly with his A-squad.  Cumae becomes their first stoppage point. The troop lands within Naples Bay, where they pay a visit to prophetess-Sibyl.  Sibyl takes Aeneas to the underworld, where he views various mysterious paraphernalia. He talks to Anchises-his father.

What is more, Anchises views the spirits of heroes of future Roman, who are still waiting to be brought to the world. Similarly, he meets Dido for the underworld. He attempts talking to her in vain as Dido rejects him (Baym, Nina, and Robert 985).

Fired up with whatever he has glimpse within the underworld, Aeneas decides to sail towards Latium. When this is happening, the local king-Latinus gets an oracle showing him that Lavina- his daughter must get an alien hubby. The prophet offers Lavina to Aeneas so that the two can get married to one another. Upon observing the happening, Juno sends anger down to make Turnus and Amata overwrought with furry.  Then Juno hoaxes Ascanius into shooting a stag kept like a pet by the gamekeeper of Latinus. The act provokes warfare between Trojans and Italians (Baym, Nina, and Robert 990).

As the Italians get to gather their friends, the gods of River Tiber pops up to Aeneas while in the dream. He tells him to ally with King Evander, who resides in the upriver. Aeneas obeys the order from the god and follows the instruction just the way he is directed.  King Evander lends some armies to the Pallas- his son. Later, he tells Aeneas to join the troops alongside Etruscans. Venus descends when Aeneas decides to speak to them.  Venus offers some breastplate to Aeneas made Vulcan god. The shield has decorations of various scenes of magnificent futuristic Rome.

In the meantime, when Aeneas not present, Turnus, together with his men, decides between attacking Trojan fort. They get defeated to capture the fort. During that night of bout, the two warriors from the Trojan’s side-Euryalus and Nisus, attempt breaking through the lines of Italians to reach Aeneas. However, they ended up being exterminated by the patrolling soldiers from Italy. After two days, arrival is Aeneas together with his Etruscan and Arcadian friends witnessed. During the battle in that period, Pallas is killed by Turnus.  The following day, Italians and Aeneas reach an agreement on a twelve ceasefire of burying their dead. However, this is made public three days afterward. The ensuing combat leads towards Camilla’s death- a queen warrior associated with Turnus

In the evening, Turnus decides to fight Aeneas one-one-one in support of taking over Lavina alongside the kingdom. The following day as they were about the fight their battle, the sister of Turnus-Juturna aggravates an Italian into throwing a spear to Trojan, sparking a fresh fright. After a long duel, Aeneas meets head-on with the Turnus, whom he ultimately wounds using his spears. As Turnus commences begging for forgiveness, Aeneas takes into consideration leaving him up to the point he sees Turnus putting up a belt stolen from Pallas. This angers Aeneas, who eventually terminates Turnus using his weapon (Baym, Nina, and Robert 1000).

Response

From the story, the essential character is Aeneas, who borrows his characteristics from well-known loyalty as well as his public duty sense that activates him towards revering gods in addition to a newly found Troy while in Italy.  The point of view in the story is the god’s actions in various events. This is seen when Virgil takes control of the story.  Within this narrative, Aeneas fails to have appropriate accessibility towards the perspectives of god; thus, he associates events from his aspects. The tone of the story is tragic. In the fact of treating Rome’s glory, the epic turns honorific and fervent. At the time, Virgil illustrates the history of victims-the people who underwent pain at the times of establishing Rome, such as Dido- the epic’s tone turns compassionate and tragic. The narrative has used past tense and occasionally switching to present to augment the proximity of various scenes. Also, Virgil employs future tense in all the predictions and prophecies.  The main protagonist in the narrative is Aeneas to moves from the devastations of Troy up to Italy. It is in Italy where Aeneas establishes the race which shall lead in the Rome foundation. Harboring the sentiments of vengeance against Trojans, Juno obstructs the mission of Aeneas through rabble-rousing and eroticism between Dido and Aeneas, causing warfare between Latins and Trojans. The battle inflicts suffering for a hero within the epic.
