Response to Programmatic Approach to Community-Based Learning
Casing is where authentic narrative dilemmas of short-to-medium length are used as course materials to address topics occurrences with uncertain outcomes. When instructions are cased, they provide a basis for classroom discussion and reflection hence promoting critical thinking. A case study research is a method of research that focuses on a specific phenomenon and analyzes it exhaustively. This method of research will be useful because the main activity of the class will involve an in-depth, up-close, and detailed analysis of a specific case. One of the advantages of this approaching research using this method will be equipping students with practical problem-solving techniques.
The article has similar approaches with slight differences to other courses in the Applied Communication Department. In the article, research is given a programmed path. It is an engaging process that involves communication, self-reflection, service learning, and problem-based learning. The difference with other courses is that the purpose of research does not have to be solely problem-solving. It can be a discovery of different phenomenon and relationships between them.
I found the case study method of research a personalized approach that is so productive and interesting. In the video, it was interesting how the instructor asked his students to engage with each other on the challenges they have experienced while interacting with other people in the country. It is easier to understand a given phenomenon when a researcher concentrates on it entirely. Knowledge has equipped me with the skills to analyze things from different perspectives. Besides, I learned that case-based instruction could help me in developing problem-solving skills and enhancing my creativity in my personal and professional life.
