Clashes and Protests in India

In India, the policies made by Modi have brought about rise to a fuse between the Hindu and Muslim people.  Indians had faith that Hindu nationalism will bring unrest in the country in due time, which eventually happened in Delhi. Residents in India’s capital were consumed by fire claiming over 40 lives with a greater percentage of Muslims and the government rushed to say that it was the effect of violence which is disputed by the critics who say that the deaths were planned to take place. It is perceived that the new policies put in place by Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought about exemption from punishment, captured the social amenities and stirred up the religious enmity by creating a Hindu friendly environment which only blew up the instability.

People who are in support of the government have the freedom to do anything, even the crimes and be sure of walking away scot-free without any punishment. The government has given them political protection of walking away with crimes. As a result of this, the hate way of life has been natured among the people of India, causing a social drift among its occupants (Aligarh, 2019). People who live in the neighbourhood in town the Indians who make up to 85% of the population have religious conflicts with the 15% Muslims who are also occupying the area. Almost all Muslims are moving away from the capital from the little belongings they have left from what had been burned.  This situation questions the slogan that Mr. Modi used while running for the prime minister seat back in 2014, which stated that ” together for all, development for all.”

The Prime minister had promised citizens peace, growth of the country’s economy but hid his motives behind the Bharatiya Janata Party’s history of making Muslim religion extinct and having Hindu nationalism aims (Singh, 2019). When he was the chief minister, he was accused of the massacre of the Muslim religion n the year 2002, but many Indians became tired with the governments that had ruled before which was the rival party of Mr. Modi that is the Congress Part that they decided to try out change by electing in the latter party led by Mr. Modi praying and hoping that they would experience change as they had a well-laid manifesto as there were no policies that would raise the alarm in about Hindu Nationalism..

Changes started happening when Lynch Mobs, who said that they were making sure that the cows were safe, which was considered a holy animal in the culture of the Hindu, came through the landscape and started killing people who were Muslims in the lower case Dalits. The Prime Minister Mr. Modi also nominated the famous Hindu extremists to occupy the senior-most government positions, including Yogi Adityanath, who was given the chief minister seat in Uttar Pradesh, which was the largest state in India. This posed a great challenge for the Muslims who were the minority group and had no official in the government that would fight to uphold their rights (Serhan, 2019). Yogi was abusive when it came to Muslims as they were referred to as “crop with two-legged animals” and also vowed that he would start a religious war in order to diminish the Muslim culture in India.

Mr. Modi also went ahead and placed Hindu allies as head of the basic social amenities such as schools, universities, hospitals and other cultural institutions. He changed the names of places and even the books used by students making it very inconvenient for the Muslims. He did this to prove that the Muslims were of no importance to the nation of India. At this time, Muslims felt so discriminated, judged and marginalized. This is the time when impunity started taking charge as people of the mob who even killed other people in broad daylight were not punished for their mistakes, and if at all they were often caught, the people in leadership would refer to them as heroes. The violence that had arisen in India did not affect Prime Minister Mr. Modi as the largest percentage of the country were his supporters 80% Hindu, which was even raised last year through the nationalists’ help via the disputes they had with Pakistan.

Modi’s party succeeded in administering the Hindu nationalist policies. In August, they abolished the only state which was dominated by the Muslim called Jammu and Kashmir, which were locked and blocked from accessing any political rights and hence were abolished from the state. In November, it got worse as the Hindu was given permission to build a temple over the place where there were ruins of a mosque that was previously ruined by a Hindu mob (Nileena, 2019).  A month later, the Muslims were filled with rage after Mr. Modi started a new policy that the country offered citizenship to new migrants from all over the world except for Muslims. This gave rise to protests from Muslims and even other Indians who were progressive and saw that Mr. Modi was doing the wrong thing. It caused a big threat to the secular and inclusive nation of India.

The crisis had been created and not inherited. The law of citizenship created the impression that he wanted to move India to be an exclusively Hindu occupant state and was also seen to be his long term agenda in the long run. The protest geared up a heavy crackdown, especially in areas where the security control was from his party B.J.P. the police officers subjected Muslim boys to torture (Desk, 2019). In the University of Muslims, they caned unarmed students with no apparent reason for doing so. The slogan of the ruling party changed from together for all, development for all to shoot the traitors as it was often used by the people in power trying to make the police officers kill the Muslims who were fighting for their rights.

It was observed that homes were being burned, and when they reach a Hindu home, they stepped back. Lots of lives were claimed, and the government failed to react. In the end, they came out to say their policies had not in any way stirred up violence. The government’s officials claimed that Modi’s government was based on ideological aspirations. However, this amendment policy has been widely criticized as it is said that all the citizens will be greatly affected by the bureaucratic moves where everyone will have to prove their original citizenship so that the registry could keep its records.

This, however, is the true picture of what happens in other nations, including the United States of America, where this kind of brutality is encountered through minority groups, women and people from lower classes (Kalita, 2019). The opposite of what critics say that secular nationalism does not want to completely avoid or do away with the religion or even privatizing it as for example, India’s secular model greatly recognizes religion and its importance. India is slowly losing its trusted allies as a result of its amendments as the media reports that India has presented itself as having self goals when it comes to the diplomatic context, which has caused the loss of trusted allies and even investors who feel insecure in the country. India must recognize their mistake, and recently, some US panels have also condemned India.

India has also suffered an economic setback. The UN has criticized the country through press coverage, which has stirred up international pressure. Many countries have seized doing business with India, considering the political instability in the nation. This has, however, shaken the world’s economy at large as India is also one of the major foreplay when it comes to trading imports and exports. Perhaps India needs to learn the importance of the rights of individuals in their country.
